Day 4

Mostly the same old stuff. Nothing worthy of a picture, unless you actually need to see me using hand gel?

Rather, here's an example of how my EDC usually gets selected...
Yesterday I visited a friend - He's a mechanic but works independently, so rather than having a large lot full of customer cars, they have to park their vehicles out on the street while waiting for him to fix them. This requires a parking permit, which is just a ticket you fill out for each half-day your car is parked there.
My friend has a whole pad of tickets for this purpose, but he never EVER has a pen to hand... cue me reaching for my Fisher SP!

My friend is also a smoker, but guess what? Yup, he never EVER has a working lighter to hand.

My friend is a mechanic and has within a few paces' walk several entire walls full of SnapOn tool chests, with every imaginable tool. He has straight spanners, reversible spanners, ratchet spanners, hinged spanners, open-ended ring spanners, threaded retractor sets for all sizes of brake pistons, gap spacers and twisty things and turny things and other do-stuff things for specific models of specific brands of engine. If it exists, he has at least one of them.
He even has a LM Micra, a SAK of some kind, and several other multi/combo-tools, but guess what he never EVER has to hand?

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

So yeah, part of what motivates me to carry X, Y or Z is how often I have to use what I have when other people don't have anything.

That's what friends are for. :D
Having said that, I have learnt not to lend out any sharps to friends or family, especially MT, they always end up being used as prybar.

Classic liberated a small Knipex pliers from mail, love those little pliers, so handy.
All the talk about gears inspire me to re-examine my own EDC kits, and some items from the boo boo kit needed to be updated.

Everytime I see the mini Knipex, I think of getting a pair, but I really have no “need”.  I just don’t use pliers very often.  I do have a couple pairs of mini locking pliers, but those are used mostly for holding Fisher’s chews.

I find this a lot, where people just don’t carry items with them even if they frequently use them.

One example I love was where I gave someone a SAK Classic.  She told me she gave it away because she didn’t have use for a “knife”.  But yet I’ve watched her ask others to borrow a knife or scissors.

A new bandana that I forgot to mention yesterday.
That is an awlsome bandana! :tu: Where ever did you find it?

My friend is also a smoker, but guess what? Yup, he never EVER has a working lighter to hand.
Hope he awlways has his own cigarettes, if nothing else.

Some great work by everyone, as usual! :tu:

Day 5

Much of the loadout changed today: 58mm SAK, 91/93mm SAK, dedicated knife, bandana, and marble. I awlso added a new fidget: a tin of putty. Hopefully my photo does an adequate job of conveying its brilliance. The Pulse is finally sporting a lanyard (see the Locks Up! challenge for a better photo). Finally, I've forgotten to mention that the pen found its spot: clipped to the front of pocket 13.

I’m not positive, but think I might recognize that Sodbuster Jr.

Day 5

This is the fridge. It had stickers plastered all over it, because the little ones thought it'd be funny...
What's a guy to do, but crack out the chisel/scraper and use it to remove the stickers, without scratching the surface... Forget that it's already scratched to smurfery from when said little ones tried to 'help' clean it!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Other uses kinda same-same. Filed kids' nails down. Used same file tip to open small battery compartment on kids' torch, only to find it uses LR44 of which I have none....!!
Gonna take the pups out in a bit, so will use torch.

I think you do. It was one of the items in your GAW that I sent to FX, unless he has two with those scales.

It is funny. I have fallen so hard for the sodbuster pattern recently, but I paid very little attention to that particular knife last year
I guess I only had eyes for Leatherman MTs at that time.

I changed a few things up today.  I finally found my favorite flashlight (HDS EDC Rotary SDR 50) had been missing for over a week, so when I found it today it needed to go in my pocket.  I asl decided to go small on my fixi and MT (Southern Grind Vermin and LM Style PS) and large on the folding knife (Hinderer XM3.5).  Ialso swapped keys today so it was back to Rambler and Mateminco CSF-04

Changed up my kit slightly by changing the 84mm from the Wenger (serrated) Highlander to the Victorinox Tourist.  The Korean copy of a Zippo works surprisingly well so I don't need to change it yet.

I am in a similar boat as you do, I don't have any real use for 'pliers', so I do usually carry a MT on person.  However, for those situation when I do need one, I have been thinking the effectiveness of carry a SAK+ pliers vs a MT.  The combination offer more versatility while, the weight distribute better when I carry them in different pockets.

I too have a sticker problem at home.  Little guy love his stickers and love to put it up randomly around the house.  I tried to tear some down when he is not around, but the problem is the little fella does have a pretty good memory all his stickers are, and get pretty upset if I take them down.  So all I can do now is to peel some of them off secretly, and stick them on my own shirt couple of times, so the stickers would loose some of its stickiness and detach over time...

Interesting putty.   This kind of reminds me of a jar of putty I use to clean gunk out of my tools.

How do you like this small fixed blade?

I rarely regret any knife purchases, but one that I do regret getting was a 'survival' skeleton knife that could fit inside a altoid tin.  I got fixated on the word 'fixed blade' while completely overlooked the fact that a 1+" in blade with a 2+" handle was not very usable(except box opening), and in survival situation, a 84/91mm SAK would have been so much more useful/efficient than that.  Ever since that, I tried to shy away from the ultra small fixed blade and more interested in knives I could at least have a full grip(3.5" handle at least)

I feel similar to you.  Despite being a fixed blade, I don’t really think Vermin gives much more utility than a Spyderco Dragonfly or similar.  I find my preference for fix blade knives is around a 3.5” handle and 2.5-4” blade.  That size tends to give me a full grip on an easily controlled and versatile knife.

Very interesting to see how a knife technician works for a European company in Japan.  That factory lunch set selling at under 2 usd is really mind blowing, the last time I've ever saw a deal like that was at UN headquarter(IIRC, a burger meal was 2 usd, but that was at least 2-3 decades ago, things probably have changed drastically)

Busy day with the O'Pen getting used to prepare for today's game...
Looks like a pretty neat flashlight! :tu: What sort of batteries does it use? (I know they're called "torches" in the UK, but here in the States, a "torch" is a device that produces an intense flame.)

Interesting putty.
Indeed it is. I did a little fidgeting with it yesterday.

Great photos from awl! :tu: And yes, the Sod Buster Jr. did go from Sos24 to Adam to me.

Day 6

No changes to the loadout. The Bantam received a few whacks across a piece of old belt that I repurposed into a strop. It shows improvement.

The light in the picture is a AAA light in Titanium, I snagged it for a steal (£15) on Amazon several years ago  :tu: Three modes, the lowest is ultra low which is nice for looking inside of things without blinding yourself with the bounce back. I think it'll run on 10440s too, but it isn't intended for them. I use an Ikea-wrapped Eneloop in it normally. This is discontinued, which is probably why i got it so cheap at the time, but I highly recommend the Ti3 for a super compact twisty, or a Lumintop Tool AAA in Ti for a similar style light  :tu:

I sometimes go for walks just to test various lights out in the dark... The other times I don't go for walks

Part of my preference for torch (besides it being what I learned first) is it's just shorter to say and type, but I get the confusion for sure!

Thanks! I have a preference for flashlights that run on alkaline batteries, and that one looks like it's pretty compact. However, my I1R2-EOS (which I believe may have been in your possession at one time) has acquitted itself rather nicely.

i3T might be up your alley if you like AAA-sized lights  :tu:

That light was originally a Christmas gift for SurgeUK, but Amazon smurfed up and he ended up with two for the price of one! Happy to see it spread to another quality member  :tu: It's a cracking little light with great output for the size

I changed up the MT, Fixi, and folder, with everything else the same.  Today was Spirit, small Cripple Creek (GEC 14) and a Bark River Mountaineer II.

The ferro rod I keep in the knife sheath and the Mountaineer helped make some coffee to start the day then popcorn as a snack
