Day 21
I realized I haven't shown my watch in the challenge except in the everything pic at the beginning, so here's my EDC watch, a Citizen Eco Drive that I've had since 2000 along with the mighty CT-41.  I really like the CT-41, but I sure do miss the magnifying lens of the Swiss Champ.

Forgot to mention the watch and CT-41 were pictured on today's basic, plain white handkerchief with the inevitable and fairly requisite coffee stain. ::)

Powernoodle Day 22

The Streamlight Protac 2AAA has been my trusted companion for a long time.  I like it for its long runtime, and stiff clicky that never activates accidentally.  The Rovyvon A8 I got from watching Youtube's Jon Gadget.  The whole Rovyvon lineup is pretty awesome, and I prefer the multifunction flavors like the A8 that have a wide area light on the side of the body in addition to a UV light.

Swap in a Fiddleback forge Hiking Buddy as fixed blade, and make a coffee to keep me going.  Fiddleback Forge knives was recommended by Nix a while ago, and he was right about it--the fit and finish is indeed awesome!

Nice looking knife.  I looked at the Fiddleback Forge knives several times

RovyVon Aurora series keychain lights are nice, especially for the features.

No change other than adding a spark-lite, in addition to Zippo for lighter/firestarting.

Day 22

I finally had an opportunity to do a three-way can opener battle. The lobster claw type on the Pulse is my preference, followed by the Victorinox combo tool, and the standard Victorinox type brings up the rear.

I agree somewhat with your assessment of the can openers.  I think it's because the claw type openers are pull through types while the standard Vic opener is meant to be pushed.  My original Swiss Army type knife was a Hoffritz Partner which was made in Germany, and had an extremely sharp claw type opener.  It still works better than anything else in my collection.

Day 22
Tomorrow is my last day of my contract work, so I will be going back to my full carry as of Wednesday.  I'm thinking I'll carry a good sized fixed blade knife on Wednesday and might even need to open a coconut to celebrate the fact.  Meanwhile, here's today's pocket load.  Same load out tomorrow but the picture may be late.

I too like the Rovyvon offerings, but find myself still constantly going back to the AAA or AA batteries light.  The fact that I could pick up AAA or AA batteries in any part of the world is quite appealing.

As much as I like Ferro rod and the idea that it is fail-proof, but it is hard to beat the simplicity of Spark lite or simple bic lighter.

Growing up I have always used my Vic can opener clockwise(with right hand) and still have a hard time adjusting what is the common practice of 'pushing thru'.  And I wonder is that the reason why most prefer the original Vic can opener over the combo tool, since they are so used to pushing-thru instead of pulling thru?

Day 23

Finally the Helikon urban tactical shorts(I never understand how you could both be 'tactical' while wearing shorts...considering shorts always go with flip flop...) is here, and can't wait to try it.  I think the overall workmanship is alright, on par with 5.11, and the elastic waist band at the back is always welcomed.  The placement of all the pockets need some getting used to--I think the pants favor the user 'standing up', since the two front pockets are not very deep, while the really deep cargo pockets are located towards the middle-back(almost side of the thigh, but more biased towards the back).  The good thing is if you are jogging around, the weighted pocket flop around less, but it is slightly annoying if you are sitting down.  The back pockets are generous, but again not very deep.

Bit of a catch-up, but there's been absolutely nothing photo-worthy happening.

Day 20
Went up the coffee shop with the girls. Used the marker pen to write their names on the cups. Already done a photo of that.

Day 21
No use beyond the usual, so unless you wanna see the toothpick in action, or a snot-laden hanky.... :dunno:

Day 22
Went to help a friend sort his broken car. Used the torch to examine the inside of the engine bay and ascertained that his secondary radiator fan had seized. Not something I could really get a photo of.

Day 23

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Slashed open some new dog biscuits.
It's been a slow week so far.........

I never understand how you could both be 'tactical' while wearing shorts...considering shorts always go with flip flop...
The tactical combat uniforms of quite a few forces, past and present, have included shorts - Selous Scouts, Rhodesian SAS, NZDF, Australian Army, SADF, the French and even the British Forces...!!

Yeah I totally agree.  The lights I depend on are generally AA and AAA.  The Rovyvon lights are more of a fun, fidget item for me.  They provide a lot of utility for sure, but with a built-in battery, when it dies it dies and there is nothing you can do about it.  Not a terrible thing if you own 50 other lights, but with an AAA you can get it back in action immediately.

Agree on the AA/AAA.   CR123 batteries have become more easy to come by, but still aren’t as easy to find as AAA/AA.  I especially like to use lights that can use 14500 or AA.  With a 14500 you can usually get extra brightness if desired and rechargeable, while a AA would still provide sufficient brightness for most situations.  I especially like the 14500 with built in charge port.

I also agree with the Spark Lite and Bic.  There is something to say about simplicity and ease of use.  A ferro rod is reliable, provided you have a good striker, but nowhere near as easy as a simple lighter.

I think “tactical” has come to me lots of pockets and durable fabric.  Some companies definitely do better at thinking through the utility while others not so much.

That's one I've never heard of. I'd like to see some photos of it, if at awl possible!

The U.S. Navy had a "tropical" vaeiant of the utility working uniform that included shorts. I'm sure that they don't have such a thing now that the utilities are obsolete. I was never authorized to wear that variant, and wouldn't have anyway...I got used to wearing pants year-round. That's a practice I continue to this day.

Great photos and loadouts from awl! :tu:

Day 23

The usual suspects changed today. I awlso put the 58mm SAK on a different neck lanyard. The Bear & Son 109 has to share space with my wallet, which it doesn't do very well. The little grenade launcher is in the photo just for fun; I don't have a good spot to carry it. But it will fire a "grenade" (a wadded-up piece of paper) about five or six feet!

The Hoffritz Partner has the same tool set as a Vic Fieldmaster which is itself a Huntsman with a Phillips instead of a cork screw.  I still have it and I carry it every once in a while for sentimental reasons.

Day 20

Broke the ZT 0808 out, it opened some packages and food for the day, got treated to a touch up from the Vic pen sharpener and a clean with some dettol wipes. Really fun to flip, could probably do with a teardown, but I bought it with the lanyard on and I'd never be able to tie it as neatly myself

Day 23 and Day 24
Well, I was so tired last night I didn't even make it to bed. I woke up this morning on the couch in front of the TV (with the TV still on) and realized I didn't post up last night. Therefore, I'm posting 2 days worth of pictures today.  I don't know what was on the TV all night but I sure hope there wasn't any subliminal messaging.

The first picture is the passing of the torch, so to speak, between my Korean Zippo copy and my real Zippo in copper.  It's a bit breezy this morning but they both stayed lit.  That is, after all,  what Zippos are supposed to do.

The second picture is the CRKT Hunt'N Fisch. It's now on my belt where it will likely remain through the end of the week.  This knife is what introduced me to the comfort and convenience of horizontal carry. :D

Had to replace the fishing speed-clip thing on my pocket hanger for the SwissChamp. Managed to get some use out of the 'pliers-based multitool' in the process, but more importantly: I remembered to get a smurfing photo of the incident!

Quite a few have worn them as part of various uniforms, but I'd think it'd only qualify as 'tactical' if said uniform was primarily intended for combat.

They were released in 2019. I searched on the US eBay and found none. You may have to look in Japan. If you're unable to find one, let me know, and perhaps we can work something out.

The Altimeter kindly gifted to me by Aloha rotated in today. For some reason, I notice its presence much more than I do the Fieldmaster. It remains good and sharp, though the electronics likely need some calibration.

There are several 14500/AA flashlights available.

As far as AAA/10400, the Mateminco CSF-03 sounds like the flashlight you are looking for.  Neal’s Gadgets is where I purchased mine.

No change in carry, so I took a use picture of the Voyageur trimming a couple threads from my sandals.

Day 24
The one Bad thing about the Spirit MXBS is that there is no saw if you are planning on using outdoors.  For this reason the Farmer X was swapped in for today’s carry.
