Used the BLJ to cut up some puppy treats, but no action shot on that. Gotta say, this is a fun knife!   :tu:

This version is from Bark River Knives. I don't have my Schrade Sharpfinger anymore, but I think the BRK version is a bit smaller.

Now kinda wish I could finish the challenge with this one, but I'm going to stick with the fun little BLJ.  :tu:

Day 5
My wife dumped the Jeep's toolbox looking for something so while I am carrying the ProS figured I feature this one today....

What we have here is a Camalus 4.5in isurvival knife that came in a Christmas pack with a pretty decent trifold shovel. Essentially all it does is ride around in the toolbox.

Of more interest as the toolbox itself; a Stanley Proto 32" carpenter Box. It fits great in the 36" between my wheel wells and is held in place with cargo straps to the child seat anchors on the back of the seat.  One strap is short, the other strap is about 8' long so I can double it through the end handles on the toolbox as a shoulder strap.

Noa, that Camillus looks a lot like a Gerber BG survival knife.

Cody, is the Camillus / Western Sharpfinger USA made?

Day 5 -

Busy day, and a knife just might see a good deal of action with my day plan! 😜

Nope😔.  AWL day set in right front jean pocket. Nothing. Mott’s,,,

Then return this evening to home front, examine my loot, wants to try some fresh Whoppers…🙄.  The bag required Izula talents to gain access, then not whoppers (malted milk balls),!  We find more smaller bags, more difficult to grasp and open🤪 so Izula gutted four random packages “not intended for individual sale” and I sampled. Whoo…

Sounds like a monthly challenge candidate for 2023???
I have always seen the model displayed at Cabela’s, and most every sporting goods store, but never brought one home.

The Bark River looks real nice, too!

Day 05

This little Al Mar and Kershaw collab today, it was... not the sharpest, so some time with the Vic pull through to create a sharp secondary bevel. It tackled a microwave hot dog and acted like a fidget toy, unfortunately large in the pocket for how little blade you get out of it, but still fun.

I have since put a fob on it, which also helps with removing from sheath.  The filing down the bump is a good idea that I may try at some point.  When I really choke up on the knife, the bump hits mid-pinky so filing down would give me almost a full grip.

Day 4 - additional detail!
Maybe a member here can provide more info…

I can not see my dad or grandfather having bought, both were no nonsense types, possibly my great Uncle!  He traveled, had taste for nice things. Plus WWII veteran North Africa.  He could have gifted to my Grandfather as his Nick name was Pinky, for being much shorter than others in family.

Nice to see a family heirloom featuring here, make the use all that much meaningful! :like:

Day 4: I had the AG Russell Pocket Scalpel around my neck most of the day.

I placed my Mora Basic 511 on my work overalls. The bottom side button on Liberty bib overalls seem to fit the buttonhole on the sheath really well, and it places the knife in an ideal spot.

(Image removed from quote.)

I also tested my Antonini SOS MAMBA RQE BLACK rescue fixed blade. It comes with a "jumpable" MOLLE sheaht called the "TOP EGG"  made by an Italian holster maker, but I accidentally cut one of the straps that holds the blade in with the seatbelt cutter. Thus, I ended up using a leather sheath designed for a skinning knife. BAD IDEA. The TOP EGG is designed to sit low enough to keep from jabbing yourself in the side with the glass breaker pommel.

It's made in Maniago Italy, and is filed under "Cody, why the heck did you buy this thing?" Oh wait, it was cheap. Most of my Antoninis are small, basic pocketknives I use working around the farm. This is a whole different animal.

I think the TOP EGG ended up in the outbuilding when cutting up boxes. I'll need to find it.  I guess any holster maker could fix the cut nylon strap.

This thing is heavy enough to chop through thick wood but needs a sharpening. I also think Antonini should've used carbon steel instead of 440A. The only premium steels they use in their knives aren't even their knives--the SOS RESET line is made by LionSteel for Antonini. This would really benefit from a higher end, high-toughness steel like D2 or M4.  Heck, basic 1095 is enough (and Antonini uses C70, close to 1075 in many of their folders--which itself is perfect, and would be less likely to rust coated black like mine).

It is basically a sharpened prybar--thick, heavy and bulky.

BLADE: 105 mm - 4,13''
TOTAL: 235 mm - 9,25''
WEIGHT: 195 g - 6,88 oz.

I think I got it on sale for around $20 when the US distributor for Antonini retired.  These things are almost $200 at MSRP, nad for that, I'd go with a Becker.

(Image removed from quote.)

That's one heavy knife, but what a bargain! :tu:

That's a neat set!  :tu:

Day 4
i switched to my Derek Rausch OPK [5in blade, probably Bohler K110] ,bought in 95 or 96 from Derek at the Durban Easter Knife Show.
this knife was my EDC back then,i had a sheth made to hold a mini Maglite. back then these knives were sold sans sheaths.
i did a bit of "wood carving",i've been carving off pieces of this plank [it's my club for batoning] for the past 2 or 3 years, with different knives.
i'll probably be done in a few years  :D

Very nice, Lumintop make some excellent lights, I highly recommend the D2 for an affordable pocket thrower, for instance  :tu:

I got a few lights, mainly small primary and keychain lights with throw.  I think they generally specialize in 'throwy' lights, which I tend to like.  You could potentially make a light less throwy, but it is near impossible the other way around.

Brisa Bobtail attended a few letter opening duties.  For small fixed blade, I tend to carry it horizontally next to my belt clip.  Usually, the big belly of mine will make the handle point towards the body...bigger the belly, better the concealment.  :D

Day 6 -

Interest now in a Sharp Finger!  Do not understand where that notion cam from, yet maybe this Rapid River model may qualify?

This morning did cleanup and blade touch up work on my Grandpa’s hunter, a Western made in Boulder,  Colorado.  No idea it’s age, maybe 90 to? Unless he took a farm blade in early days hunting.  He bagged and process his deer, and know he had put at least 45 in the freezer while I was around.

Then today I selected my Buck 684 in the 113 sheath for duty today.  I got a call couple of days ago, I will be able pickup 4 fresh chickens today.   One for the grill and rest to be processed and package for winter meals. Whole chickens have been hard to come by.

Another month means another 40 pound box of cat litter to open. I'd forgotten how ergonomic and slicey the Schrade Old Timer 152 is.  Why it's just like having a sharp finger.  Y'all see what I did there? :pok: :pok: ::)

It is in that sweet spot (for me) of being under 8 inches with more handle than blade. The Brisa Bobtail is nearly identical to my Brisa Enzo Necker 70 which has the same blade, but a slightly shorter handle.
