Is it redundant to carry two SAKs ?

For years, I only carried one SAK at a time.

Now I carry two SAKs at a time, but that's only because I've been too lazy to take the Classic off of my key chain.

 

95% of the time I carry an alox so it has no toothpick or tweezers. I also carry models that have no scissors so I like that my little Classic SD on my key chain has all that

So... I am responding to my OWN thread lol.

 I decided I would not carry my classic SD on my key chain for a weekend, I would just carry my alox cadet for 2 days and see what happens. On day two I decided to bring a hamburger up to my dad in the hospital. After a few bites a piece of lettuce got stuck between my teeth. Thats when I realized I was doomed.

This is exactly why I carry my classic SD. I prefer to carry an alox over a cellidor, however, there is no toothpick on my alox.

So, I drove the 15 minutes it takes me to get home with this piece of lettuce driving me nuts. SURE I could have figured out some other way to remove it but I wanted to leave it there for a while as a punishment to never take my classic sd off my key chain again.

Most SAK blades work fine as toothpicks; you just have to be a bit more careful than with the plastic variety.

I like to use the awl. It's also good for cleaning out ear wax.

As I read your response I instantly pictured a lot of blood and me in the dentist office or hospital LOL.

 I have a knack for accidently cutting myself . I am forever wearing band aids on my fingers. I am thankful for the advise my friend but I am SURE I would be that one guy that cuts his gums open if I tried that LOL

Carrying a 58mm on a keychain for me is so effortless and makes complete sense.  Its not in addition to, its really its own thing.  I hope that makes sense. 

I am not carrying it to compliment per se.  I carry it because its a great tool all on its own.  While I can see many who dislike redundancy I just dont see it that way. 

BTW, The Doctors Brush Picks are wonderful.  I carry a couple in my wallet ( I snap a pic later ).  There is no better toothpick IMO.

It depends whether this tool redundancy I suppose.  In most cases people carry a 58mm plus a larger SAK although that's not always the case.

A combo I've just been carrying for a few days now but which I like a lot is the Farmer and a Jetsetter.  Really no redundancy here unless you consider having 2 bottle openers redundant, but I don't use the combotool on the Jetsetter to open bottles at all, it's only for the Phillips driver.
