Re-assembling a Leatherman Juice CS4
on:
December 19, 2022, 04:52:33 PM
I bought a Juice CS4 in the recent sale and immediately ordered an original Juice blade to replace the newer, cut-down weird sheepsfoot blade that the newer Juices come with. I managed to disassemble the Juice yesterday. My problem now is how to reassemble it. I have four 1/8” x 0.5” pivot barrels with torx screws to replace the rivets. My problem is how to get the center section of the handle reassembled with the floating springs. Any tips?

I have never tried it. But I’ve seen posts and YouTube videos of folks repairing their Juice and it seems like you can just finagle it in? Try this link:

Hope this helps.

Assemble without the springs, then slide the springs from the side. Push the springs in as much as possible while holding the tools closed, then hit the spring ends with a hammer to put them completely in place. Wear eye protection, sometimes a spring will fly across the room. At first it seems impossible but it gets easier with time. Good luck.

Here it is! I need to find/make some new scales, but it’s fully functional. That edc forums thread was exactly what I needed for reassembly.

If Juice donor tools were cheaper and easier to find, I would probably replace the corkscrew and can opener with a file or serrated blade, just to clean up the lines and contours of the Juice.

Thanks!
I’m not completely sold on the Juice as a multitool that I would carry, but it’s nice to have another platform for mods.

I missed out on those discounted juices and not to rub salt, but the XE6 would have given you all the parts you need to have either a file, saw or seerated blade (not to rub salt in the wound, just incase you ever ebay one for parts). I do have a serrated blade I'd trade ya for the corkscrew layer if you are interested.
My daily driver is a (heavily modified) juice, simply because it's such a pocket friendly size. Aside from the pliers losening up a bit, I've been suprised how well it has held up considering how much I abuse it.

For scales, those thin metal rulers have worked well for me, and they come in all sorts of annodized colors. I've posted some mods, let me know if you're interested in more details on any of them. (Going to do a final write up soon, just trying to figure out the best way to add a liner lock to the blade)

Yeah, I’m staring to regret choosing a CS4 over an XE6 for the same price. Honestly, though, I’d rather have a KF4, but I don’t want one badly enough to pay Wave or Charge prices for one in decent shape.
I’ve ordered some brass sheet to make new scales. I hadn’t thought of those anodized aluminum rulers. That’s genius!
I’m interested in a trade, but first I’ll have to drill out the rivets in the corkscrew handle.

A K4 can be made leaving out the scissor and corkscrew layers from the xe6, but I think one of the outer scales wouldn't overlap the inner handle, not a big deal, but just a heads up, I think there are actually 3 different sizes for the skeltonized outer scales (I know there are at least 2).
Out of curiosity, why would you need to drill out the corkscrew? Just to be clear the corkscrew scale and the backspring with the pivot holes is what you would be giving me, and I would be giving you a replacement skeletonized one with a serated blade. The standard backspring for that is interchangeable.
