letherman file trumps again
on: February 03, 2009, 07:51:14 PM
I bought a byrd harp tool and the awl was not finished to a point. I pulled out a couple files and went to work adter the competitors failed I used the diamond file on the charge and it filed the awl down to a sharp point. I also was filing the wire cutters on a couple tools and used the leatherman file, viv file, and sog file. the leatherman file sure is king.  it was much more effective than the competition.

Gotta love the LM diamond file. How do you like the harp tool?

I've been using the file on the Core a bit these last couple of days, and it ain't bad either you know?

Compared to some of the things the competitors put on their tools, I'd say that the LM files are superior, diamond and steel.
I used to come here a lot.

If the Core file is the same as the Fuse's, then I completely agree.  :)  Despite it not being a diamond file (which ideally I'd prefer) it is a great file to use.

It is - but bigger! I was using the wood file to shape some SAK scales and it was just about right. Took enough off with each stroke, without ripping great chunks out. Perfick.

The scales aren't finished yet, but they're roughly the right shape by now:

The cut-out for the CS, was done with a leatherman file

I am very fond of the Leatherman files, and their serrated blades.
Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

Owe yeah I do agree that they are still very great files :D I just like the diamond file for a MT better seems like I could do more with it then ;) It still has a steel side that would handle most everything that there reg file would plus you can do finer work like knife and/or axe sharpening

But do take in mind my EDC is an Original SuperTool with the reg LM file ::) :D and it's great :)

That's my feeling as well. In fact, I like the diamond file so much, that I really miss it when using the metal file on my other tools. I can't think of another implement that I notice the difference so much with...

the harp is poorly made. the saw, file and and awl are useless. the blades are suppose to lock but they do not. besides rotating the blades out to use them I noticed the file will also twist like the pin doesn't hold it in place tight. I try to rest the charge and use other toolsw but I go back for it.
