SAK 91mm Camper - thicker in the middle than the ends?

Hi all, back with another question!

I took the scales off a brand new 91mm Camper. The outer liners contain the stamped indentations to allow for the thinner blades, as expected. But they also have a curved stamp which makes the middle of the knife thicker than the ends.

I've attached a couple of photos to show what I mean.

The effect of this is that the knife has a 'barrel' shape: 9.1mm wide at the ends, and 9.8mm wide in the middle.

I'm sure the original cellidor scales have enough flex to cope with this, but what about stiffer custom scales? Presumably they'll also need to bend to match the shape of the knife?

Or will epoxy and clamping solve this? Would appreciate your thoughts...

I think the liners are shaped like that so that they are tensioned against the scales. Once you remove the scales the liners splay out in the middle.

It's more a case of the lines bending to fit the scales rather than the other way round, so you'll be fine whatever scales you fit  :tu:
