Does anyone have an 84mm metal file?
on: October 19, 2023, 12:26:56 AM
I'd like to do an 84mm mod that includes a metal file.  If anyone has a spare 84mm metal saw they'd be willing to part with, or a crappy-overall 84mm knife that has an ok or better metal saw, can you let me know?

If you're curious, this is the plan:

Alox scales from this year's Winter Magic Cadet
Layer 1:  Openers with Small flat head on the back
Layer 2:  Metal saw likely with no back
Layer 3:  Scissors with Long Nail file on the back
Layer 4:  Large and small blades with Awl on the back

I have this exact knife, sans metal file and with regular red alox scales.  I grossly over spent on it.  I'd like to do this one myself.  I have to look into how the small flat head was put behind the blades.  I have the scissors with long file already.  I bought a Winter Wonder to the scales from.

Why the metal saw?  First, I really think of them as files, not saws.  Second, I find much more use for a file than I do a wood saw or other "extra" tools.  And finally, I have a weird fondness for them!

Thanks,
David

I really liked the scales, so I got 2 knives: one for this project and one to keep pristine.

If you think about it, many people pay much more for simple/plain CNC'd scales and dividers from special materials, so I don't think this splurge is that bad.

An 84mm metal file is hard to find, I have yet to encounter one. However, the 85mm file will fit in a cadet and is easier to obtain used or even new (in the very expensive Delémont S54).

I’ve never done it … but maybe it’s possible to fit a 91mm metal file to an 84mm saw backspring by cutting the file to the 84mm saws profile?
