Wow this is really interesting. Who would’ve thought such a tool would go through so many iterations… I’d like to know the internal conversations here. I just used mine to peel an orange yesterday and really don’t know if any one of these variations would be better for the task.

I wish there was a 74mm version of the Philips combo tool and scoopula (cuticle pusher).  The orange peeler would function like a cut and pick and the additional length of the scoopula would be make it usable in the lab. I’ve used mine on a few things to test it out and i see how it could’ve been useful for a chemist.

So, is the only difference between the executive and companion the key ring (companion is the original name)?

Yep that's what the Wiki says
I have not checked the catalogues, but I know the older editors did. So I’m sure that is correct

I said I would post a picture of my Executives almost 2 months ago. Better late than never I suppose. I over-estimated as I only have 27, but I do have another 96 Olympics one on the way.

As close as I can be, they are in order from oldest to newest from late 50s up to the most recent version. The first 9 have Victoria tang stamps. I also added a picture of the different serration styles on the orange peeler. It's hard to tell from the picture, but 3 and 5 are almost the same, except they were made about 45 or 50 years apart.

Thanks for taking the time and effort! Great picture and great collection. Is it mother of pearl - the third fromleft in the upper row?

How long did it take to collect them? And what drawn you to executives?

I'm not sure if it's mother of Pearl or not. The scale tools would suggest it's not but it sure looks like the real thing when compared to other knives with fake MOP scales.

I've been collecting Executives for a few years. When the rumors started about them being discontinued I really started buying them up.  To me, the Executive, and all the 74mm models, are a great size to carry. The jump up from a 58mm is enough to make it much more useful, and it feels like it completely disappears in my pocket. Also, the long slender tools are kind of sexy. I know that sounds weird but I don't know how else to describe it.

Psyjohn,

that's a great collection indeed.  :hatsoff:  :like:

I've got myself an executive with mop scales and metal-headed tweezers. SAKWiki says it's faux MOP, but I don't know how to check that. Not wanting to do the infamous amber test  :sa:
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Thanks for sharing some helpful information. I saw somewhere that you can poke a red hot pin into the scale (inside the toothpick slot so it doesn't show) and it will smell different. Burning plastic or burning bone, I imagine the smells are very different. Not sure I want to do that to mine since it's 60+ years old.
