I have a spare diamond file, but the pivot hole is a little larger than the Rebar's handle pivot.  How did you make that work?

You have to cut it down a little shorter, grind the correct profile to lock in place in a Rebar and redrill a new pivot hole :cheers:

I know there are pics of it in the thread over in the amod squad, I need to go and find the thread :salute:

Yeah, I don't have the tools necessary to pull off that file mod.

Day 5;

Found this figure cheap on eBay, and used the serrated blade to make quick work of the clam pack.

Day 5

Wilma the Weimaraner did a runner under the fence in the back yard.

Used Fat Boy to do a temporary repair until this weekend.

Seen here clipping some zip tie.

(Image removed from quote.)
Wienaraners are beautiful  dogs in my book!  Very active but pretty.

Please share a picture of Wilma if you can get to chill long enough!

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Some spiffy work, Rich.

Day 5

No interesting uses today, opened a package or two. I had to relight the pilot light on the furnace today, I guess I should've done the firestarter challenge.

After carrying the Rebar for a week or so, and putting it through some decent paces, I love this thing. I'd probably still take a Spirit over it if I had to pick one PBMT for life, but this is  my ideal Leatherman. The size is great, the tool selection is solid, the deployment isn't stabby or clumpy or any other kind of awkward like a lot of Leathermans are. I know it's not as flashy as an Arc (or even a Wave), but this is the ideal EDC LM IMO.

Nice photos, everyone!

Agreed. It's such a great size for EDC, and while nothing is instantly accessible like with other tools, every tool is reliable and useful. (Presumably including the wire stripper, but I kind of suck at using it well.)

Day 5

I was driving for the first half of the day, so I was half worried I wouldn't have a reason to use the Rebar today. But to my delight, I needed to cut open an old toy to rescue a new toy that had gotten stuck inside. :D

And then I got to use the Rebar to install a new floodlight in our carport. Totally rocked it. The wire cutters are excellent; I'm loving the serrated blade more every day; the wire stripper is, well, kind of a pain; and the long Phillips is *chef's kiss* excellent.

Tomorrow, I'll be traveling by train, so the Rebar might be at risk. Fingers crossed it won't be a problem. My backup tool is basically a flathead/pry bar with a circular cutter inside it (CRKT 9913), which is handy enough, but I'd rather have a multitool.

No problem,  Rich  :salute: really all you would need is a Dremel and a drill, you can also use a Dremel as the drill I believe (might have to get an adapter for that though)
 :think: Just takes practice so don't sell yourself short that it is beyond your abilities  :cheers:

Day 6

Have a busy day planned so Fat Boy will see a good bit of use.

Morning coffee while we contemplate activities and supplies needed.

Fence repair, toilet repair, snowblower storage and get the mower up and running.

Day plans are very similar, instead of hardware, Sam’s Club for supplies. Creamer, water 8oz size, I do’t know until check out.

Except, the fence, I removed after last dog passed, wife’s request to avoid getting another pup on a whim.
And, awl 3 toilets were replaced with tall boy, elongated style that were water efficient. Maybe 4 years past.

But spot on about swapping snowblower (used twice), with the lawnmower prep.

Maybe today, or tomorrow, or day after that.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Good thing I have a wife.

Almost forgot Wilma had a Vet appointment for some shots.

Here she is waiting for the Doc.

Day 6

Went to pack up some stuff from the old place. Removed this towel ring to move put up, probably in our laundry/half bath. My wife asked, "do you have the right screwdriver for that?" :rofl: In fact, I needed TWO different screwdrivers. No problem for the Rebar. :multi:

Went with the LC method and got very little done today. Well I did drink beer so there’s that.

Day 6

I was at the fire academy today for a structure burn session (unfortunately it's tomorrow too) so I didn't get to put my Rebar to work today. But afterwards we went out to eat and I snagged this Pic. What's better than Leathermans and pizza? Couldn't enjoy it though; I had to eat salad because of my diet. Looking forward to getting my next blood work out of the way and eating some yummy food in moderation.

Day 6:

Light cutting, but no other use.

Made an afternoon impulse trip to a local antique/junk/tool (well, everything) store, and bought a Minolta-16 MG-S camera ($15--needs new foam for the back light seal and a good going over by an expert), Cat's Meow depicting Harman Chapel at Bluefield College ($2) and a pretty much new MegaPro 15-in-1 ($3).

On the train today. Rebar’s in stealth mode, but it did help me open a stubborn pack of fruit snacks. That’s literally all. One cut. :(

Wilma 👍

Thank you!  Hope her visit was uneventful and she will soon forgive you.

She does look to be a chilled, smart, dog. Can see it in the eyes.

 Day 7

Thought I'd get some action shots of the ST300 attempting to fix the sump pump. Instead, all it needed was a finagling to realign the rod the float rides on. At least I hopefully won't need to use the rules for water in there anymore. Here's come big/little bro comp shots.

Closed size comparison:

bigbroclose.jpg
* bigbroclose.jpg (Filesize: 251.45 KB)

ST300 is a good big longer than the Rebar, and a little the other ways chunkier as well.

And open comparison:

bigbroopen.jpg
* bigbroopen.jpg (Filesize: 289.15 KB)

Plier head is substantially larger, and has an extra stranded wire cutter at the bottom, indicated by the arrow on the right.

The Rebar is often billed as "just" a shrunken down ST300, but there are a few changes:

bigbroawl.jpg
* bigbroawl.jpg (Filesize: 275.82 KB)

The awl in the Rebar has broader proportions, including in the sewing eye. You can also see the extra "medium" flathead in this picture. LM motto: When in doubt, more flatheads.

The small flathead moves to the other handle:

bigbroblde.jpg
* bigbroblde.jpg (Filesize: 319.5 KB)

And finally, a major difference that I'm surprised I never noticed, the blade shape. The ST300 came from a slightly shady source, and I was worried for a second, before I looked on the Leatherman site and saw it's supposed to be like that. The Rebar has a gentle serrated sheepsfoot, while the ST300 is an aggressive wharncliffe/reversed tanto. I think I prefer the Rebar's shape.

Overall, I prefer the Rebar as an EDC, but the ST300 is a great "one tool toolbox." I have another ST300 lives at the camper, and I'd say it's handled 90% of the maintenance without any help from other tools. It's too big/heavy for me to EDC, but if I'm already carrying a tool pouch/box/belt or if I want something to take over to a buddy's to work on something, it's the tool I'm most likely to reach for. This one mostly lives in my toolbox, where it can be a backup if someone else grabbed the pliers I need, or if I need my wife to hand me a tool and I don't want to play the "no, the other screwdriver" game.

Day 7

Used my Rebar to open a cab of beans to cook on the campfire. I didn't like how it ripped off little pieces of metal and could have potentially deposited them inside. I was careful and made sure there weren't any, but it was disappointing. Still, it's gonna be a lovely afternoon!

Day 7. Cutting was about it. Since I had to deal with a lot of Torx and spark plugs, the MegaPro and my SK ratchets did most of the work.

This old Poulan #1950 Woodshark runs, but needs a lot of work. It hadn't been started in close to 20 years, but at least the fuel had been drained. It needs the primer bulb and fuel lines replaced (both cracked and dry-rotted) and a good going over. Also needs a ton of degreaser on the parts.

Basically everything I had on me.

The Mac PN2C I've found is great for prying apart melted strands of weed eater string, meaning I don't have to completely remove the head and respool. Clip keeps popping out though.
