Bushwhacking and Slashing
on: April 27, 2024, 07:21:56 PM
Well, it used to be a nice lilac bush.  A big one.  The the privet grew up in it a little.  The lilacs died and the honeysuckle and privet took over.  I whacked it down to size a little.  Got nice and hot doing it.     [ Invalid Attachment ]
The machete is an old 18 inch blade Japanese make.  I took a coarse stone and put an edge on it before I started.  Sharpened up fairly well.  I slashed down some of the lower stuff and used my lopping shears on a pole for the high stuff.  The limbs were all wet from the rain yesterday, and I got pretty well soaked before I finished.  Still haven't piled up all the debris.  There is quite a pile.  Might do that later.  Best wishes.  G

I think I have about 4 good brush piles around the place.  This one got the privet branches.  I pick them up with the pitchfork in the foreground.  Best tool for the job, I think.  That pile has mostly leaves on it.  The green foliage kind of brightened it up a little.  Best wishes.  G

That's a solid looking machete right there.

I actually used it quite a bit years ago.  I searched until I found it today and sharpened it up.  One of my neighbors used to make the things out of old lawn mower blades or something.  Grind them to shape and whack down stuff.  Used tape for a handle.  I looked for my bush hook but couldn't find it.  Best wishes.  G

Thanks zoidberg.  The long knife is sure a lot of effort for what you get out of it.  Good for some things.  Best wishes.  G

Didn't sleep very well.  I had to get out and do something physical.  I always feel better when I get some exercise.  There is always something that needs doing.  All this rain has gotten me behind.  Best wishes.  G

You can send me some of that rain. It's pretty dry down here.  Congratulations on the new badge.

Congrats on the badge.  We've been "expecting" rain the last few days but, nothing.  Just lots of clouds and pretty breezy which I still appreciate as I know summer is right around the corner and it's usually unforgiving.

Agreed. I have a few of different lengths. The longer ones are great when dealing with prickles or brambles.
