Since when is 475 larger than 512?
on: May 02, 2024, 05:01:37 PM
I tried posting a challenge photo multiple times before posting this thread. After the final edit, the photo was said to be 475 KB. But after attempting to post, it told me the attachment was too large. Last time I checked, 475 was less than 512. Always has been, always will be. Is MTo the latest victim of "common core" math, or is something else entirely going on here? It sure is aggravating, and I'd hate to bow out of a challenge because I'm unable to post photos.

Edit: I was able to post the photo, but only after resizing it to a greater degree than I prefer.

One trick to getting a small file size (using a compooter) is to change the way the photo is saved.  Saving something as a .jpg is much smaller than a .png filetype.  The photos look good to me too.  Best wishes.  Gary

Thanks! I don't know what changed overnight with my photo editing and watermarking apps, but it's baffling. PhotoShop Express lost the text watermarking feature a while back, but it seems to have returned. (Maybe they didn't care for the review I left?) If that feature made a permanent return, then I'm saying the problem is solved.

I think you are just about the only member who watermarks your photos and puts a copyright notice.  Is there a particular reason for that?
I never used photoshop to edit any thing I ever posted.  I just right click the photo and resize from the dialog box that pops up.  I have used Paint to crop a photo or two, but using it just adds another step.  I noticed your filesize on the Micra challenge are quite small (less than 100K).
Best wishes.  G

Sometimes the forum software can be finicky on photo size. Not sure why it happens but it does and I agree it can be aggravating.

It is supposed to auto resize but doesn't always work. Sometimes I think the picture ratio can have an effect, 4:3  3:2  5:4 etc.

This pic is 524KB on my computer

Yes. Perhaps I'm acting out of an overabundance of caution that borders on paranoia, but I do have a concern about my photos being downloaded and being misused down the road.
