Awesome! Would be my personal perfect combination of tools in two layers for urban EDC.

Is this a LEGO-style, drop-in-interchangeable-parts-and-profit mod or do the tools and/or backsprings need individual adjustments, reshaping, or reboring?

The awl requires a little work. Other than that it's straight forward
Sounds good!

What is the donor SAK, in addition to the Compact?

not sure what was used, but the cheapest donor would probably be a tinker. I've been looking at this tool as a compact super tinker

A compact would work but you also need the Philips.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Yeah, Compact + Tinker it is. Too bad that we can't order individual spare tools.

(Without derailing the thread too much, but for such a mod, is it enough to only remove the pin with the respective tools, or do you HAVE to remove the outer pins as well, due to the tension?)

Well it depends. I have done both. Sometimes you have to take it all apart, sometimes you don't. I think on this one I was lucky. Just ground down the pin, tapped it out until the tool just came out. Then without taking the pin all the way out, I inserted the new tool, and used a new pin to push the old one out.

Or just "Everyday" or "Everyday Carry".

Particularly if Vic finally does the thing I want almost as much as new 84mm scissors, and that is make a glasses screwdriver (needed pretty much every day) that can go in where the pen (needed... almost never) fits in Plus scales.

The leatherman eyeglass bit almost fits, I'm working on it. The issue is finding somewhere to put it in use, kinda needs another 1/2 length slot. Might see if Syph fancies milling into his Ti scales.

There is a neat trick where you close the hook on the back end of the pen and it makes it easier to write because you have more to hold on to. Not sure if t would work when using the bit, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Nice job. Would it be just as easy to replace the hook with the technicians driver?

It doesn't work without the hook. That's one of the reasons I swapped scales. The pen is still useful if you can hold it.

Yes it should work, it would just need a bigger spacer.

Really nice work Steve!  +1

I've modded a Compact by exchanging the corkscrew for the phillips...works great.  But I read in an older thread that exchanging the hook for an awl didn't work, so I never took the time to look it over closely.  I just replaced the scissor backspring with an older pre-hook scissor backspring.

Nice piece, but I'm not sure it's still a Compact. But calling Climber Slim sounds... tacky. :)
Lol. Maybe. But it compacts the best of vic into a two layer knife.

+1

Agreed Demel!

I've already started a similar mod, but it will be a while before completed, as I'm also working on new brass liners.

Oh this is such a great idea to replace the hook with an awl! Are there any instructions as to how to attempt it (as a newbie to modding...)? Is it just to file the awl end to have similar curves to the hook? Or does it also require changing the shape of the spring?
