Free T4 or K4 Magnetic opening vs SAK
on: June 03, 2024, 12:26:04 AM
How easy (both in strength and required dexterity) is it to open the tools on the Free T and K series as compared to a SAK?

Context:  As the arthritis gets worse in my hands and fingers, I sometimes find it difficult to grip and open the tools on my SAKs.   It is the worst in the end joint which is what is required the most.  Right now it is rare, but I know it will only get worse over time as I’ve had to stop or change certain things I like doing already.  If the Free tools require less dexterity and finger strength, they may be the answer for those not so good days.

Sherry, It is really easy to open the T4 and K4. Think it is a good alternative for you.

I agree with Pa.  They're a lot easier to deal with.

Thanks both.  That is what I was hoping to hear.

May have to give one a try.

Sorry to hear about the arthritis Sherry, I saw my rheumatologist today for a jab in the hip. Luckily mine isn’t too bad but feel for you

I really like my T4 and also find it easy to open

i have founded that i can easier to open my T4 with both hands, T4 to left hand and open blade with right hand. i have quite big hands so opening T4 with one hand feels hard.

I will continue the consensus.  I have the T4, and it is much easier to manipulate than a SAK.
That’s gonna leave a mark.

Thanks guys, for all your input.  It is appreciated.

I went ahead and ordered both the Free T4 and K4.

I just received them today and was playing around with them some.  I think the strength required isn’t much different from a SAK, but the dexterity is definitely less and different.  The Free seem to require more the thumb strength and less of the grip and bending at the joints, which for me is a definite plus for me and my fingers.

Sorry to hear that you too are suffering and especially with the hip.  Fortunately, I have not gotten where I am needing injections yet.

I'm in the same boat where fingers don't work like they used too. I own the T4, K2, P2, and Arc. The FREE tech is super easy to open even when my hands are killer. The T4 especially gives me that swiss feeling.

We can definitely emphasize then

The T4 is very SAK like and appealing.  The K4 seemed like it would be a nice for when I wanted a bigger knife

This is just the kind of brilliant thinking we need around here.
It is also the thinking that gets my wallet in trouble at times.

After doing some playing around with both the K4 and the T4, i think the K4 might be going back.

The K4 requires noticeable more finger strength to open than the T4.  I really only need one anyways.
