So was going thru my SAK's and found a Outrider slide locking with Long Phillips, nothing of note there, but then I opened the main blade and found this etching on it.  It is only on one side and I did a search on Google for any image close to that, and found nothing.  Just wondering if any SA Knight has seen this etching before?  Kinda intriguing, but nothing to lose sleep over, LOL  ???

I can't be of any help identifying the etch. But it's one of the best blade etched I've seen! :like:

Nice cloak and dagger stuff, although it's hard to see why members of a secret squad would advertise their membership so openly. Or maybe the SAK was not intended for use in public and should have never left the base? Or did boiseuzj100 just blew some relative's cover by posting these pictures?  Hold on to your tinfoil hats. folks!

Interesting etching indeed! I’ve only got this one on a 93mm, originally from a peace knife harvester made for a German shop, but I pinched the blade for a Ti scaled PX - the image just happens to match my name (and it’s not Olive-branch, )….

Best of luck in trying to find something like that. I don't imagine, much like your knife, that there is a lot out there.

Except it isn't a relic from the Cold War. Some more detective work seems to be in order at this point: according to the Wikipedia article referenced by Chako, the squad was disbanded in 1972, whereas according to our own Sakwiki, the 111 mm models were only introduced in the mid 80's. That said, according to that same Wikipedia article, the Black Bat Squadron was reactivated in 2013. We must therefore conclude the Outrider at hand is a fairly recent model, which also explains the long Philips.

I am a huge fan of the 111mm slide lock knives,  call me old fashion, the liner locks are OK, but for me when I first saw the slide lock offered, I was a fan from the get go and thought it very revolutionary of Victorinox to come out with that.  I hope to get more 111mm's, my next favorite is the 93mm platform.

I was referring to the Black Bat Squadron and the story......

But very good points - And fascinating that the BBS was reactivated years later which is when we must assume that  this model was produced

What surprises me is that all this info is out in the public domain - You would think it was all super secret

Nimble fingers on any connected keyboard connected to a WWW, is no longer a secret.

Still cool logo and patch, yet with those symbols out in the public’s view was it really a secret.

Perhaps something along the lines of SEAL Team 6.  The existence of the unit is common knowledge; it is the operational plans and details that are closely held, at least until after the fact.

Seal Team 6 was created and documented ion books written by Richard Mancinco.

I suspect there are sub structures within the teams that are not known beyond the community.
