Vosteed is a brand synonymous with innovation and remarkable design, consistently pushing the boundaries of what a knife can be. Their motto, "Stay Sharp, Stay Wild," perfectly encapsulates their approach to knife-making. With the Parallel, their thinnest model yet, Vosteed continues this tradition of daring design. The twin titanium handles, running parallel to an impossibly thin blade, offer a striking first impression. But as we explore the Parallel, we'll see if this ultra-slim profile truly delivers in everyday use.

Design and Build Quality:
The first thing that strikes you about the Vosteed Parallel is how shockingly thin it is straight out of the box. I've handled many slim blades over the years, but this one is truly impressive. Vosteed has pushed the envelope here, opting for titanium handles that keep the knife light at just 2.29 oz. The use of titanium is a smart move, providing strength without the bulk, although it does come with a tradeoff in comfort, especially during extended use.
The knife’s overall design is modern and minimalistic, with a clean, angular aesthetic. The titanium handle is undeniably sleek, but its angular lines, while locking your hand in place during use, can feel a bit rough during prolonged tasks. However, the quality of the build is undeniable. The black stonewashed finish on the 154CM blade complements the titanium handles, creating a cohesive and visually appealing package. The knife's construction is tight and precise, with no unnecessary bulk or embellishments. The blue anodized aluminum backspacer and thumb studs add a subtle yet stylish contrast.
Ergonomics and Handling:
While the Parallel’s thin and light design is undoubtedly its most distinctive feature, it does have its downsides. The knife almost disappears in your hand, balancing perfectly between too big and too small, but the thin handles can become uncomfortable during extended use. The angular design, which might be expected from a modern, minimalist knife, could have benefited from gentler lines for better ergonomics.
That being said, the knife’s slim profile makes it an excellent choice for light EDC tasks. It disappears into a pocket, especially in work slacks, and is so light that you hardly notice it's there. The minimalistic jimping is effective without being obtrusive, and the finger guard, combined with the knife's angular design, ensures a secure grip during use.
Blade Performance:
The Parallel features a reverse tanto blade shape made from 154CM steel, a combination that delivers impressive cutting performance. I've been a fan of the reverse tanto shape since my days with a Benchmade 940, and the Parallel continues to impress. The thin blade profile enhances its cutting ability, making it perfect for everyday tasks. The 154CM steel is a solid choice for light use, offering a step up from lower-grade steels like 440C, though it may not be the top choice for heavy-duty tasks.
Locking Mechanism:
The crossbar lock on the Parallel is secure, though I found it a bit tighter than expected straight out of the box. It’s not adjustable like some other Vosteed models, but it offers a good balance between security and ease of use. The thumb studs are well-placed, allowing for quick and snappy blade deployment. While the lock might require a bit more effort to disengage, it provides a reassuringly strong hold on the blade.
Practical Use:
For someone like me, who doesn’t require a hard-use knife every day, the Parallel fits the bill. It’s perfect for light tasks, disappearing into your pocket until you need it. However, if you’re looking for a knife that can handle more rigorous use, the Parallel might not be the best choice. The slim profile, while great for carry, does make extended use less comfortable.
One standout feature is the wire pocket clip—a first for Vosteed in my experience. It’s well-executed and complements the knife’s design perfectly. I’d love to see this clip used on future models, as it’s a great addition to the industry that isn’t seen often enough.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- Incredibly thin and lightweight design
- High-quality materials and craftsmanship
- Smooth, snappy deployment with caged ceramic ball bearings
- Secure crossbar lock
- Versatile and discreet wire pocket clip
Cons:
- Thin handles can be uncomfortable during extended use
- Angular design may not suit all users
- Blade steel is adequate but not premium
Conclusion:
The Vosteed Parallel is an intriguing addition to the company’s lineup, delivering on their promise of innovation with their thinnest model yet. While it excels in light-duty tasks and offers excellent portability, it may not be the best choice for those who need a knife for more demanding use. For enthusiasts like myself, who appreciate a knife that’s easy to carry and efficient for light tasks, the Parallel is a solid option. However, for those expecting the robustness found in some of Vosteed’s other models, this knife might fall a bit short. It’s a knife that impresses with its design and build, even if it’s not quite as groundbreaking as some of Vosteed’s other offerings.
