Value DMT vs no-name
on: March 09, 2025, 03:18:50 AM
I've got a few diamond stones that I've picked up loose (flea markets, sales, etc.) and I they've become my preferred sharpener for a lot of tasks. I'd like to get a nicer "set" instead of a random selection, and I started looking around online. DMT stones/plates seem to start at around $30 per for the bench stone size, and only go up depending on which specific ones you get. I'm seeing Brand-X ones with decent reviews coming in at $20-30 for a 5 plate set. That's a real tempting deal. Anyone got any experience with DMT vs others? I know they'll last forever, I'll get my money's worth out of them, etc. but I'm awlso not made of money.

DMTs are definitely nicer but I have those and the cheaper ones, it really depends on how much you sharpen  I also use the cheaper ones to reprofile things and remove lots of material to save the more expensive DMT ones for more refined sharpening tasks :tu: so there is actually a use for both :D

Not exactly answering your question really but making it harder to choose I guess
