So I recently decided to change my EDC SAK from one knife to two. Check out
this post here if you want to full story on that. In the process I decided to add a few things to my EDC list and I wanted a simple, slim flashlight. After searching for WAAAAAYYYYY too long looking at all the different sizes, styles, and shapes I finally just settled on the humble Maglite Solitaire.
The positives here were the super slim size and basic AAA battery. I also liked the fact that I can unscrew the lens cap totally to make it an area light. The one big negative was that I wanted a magnetic base to be able to put it places easily to use hands free. After searching for mods and not finding any, I decided to make one myself.
This is about as simple as a mod as you can get. I just designed and 3D printed a basic ring with different sizes on the top and bottom. The bottom just press fits solidly on the base of the maglite while the top has room for two of
these magnets to press fit in.
The base works GREAT for allowing me to stick the maglite onto metal surfaces and barely adds to the thickness. And it's very easily removeable it I need to. And it fact the removable part is a bonus because with the magnets having holes I could easily tie a sting around the magnets and use them to pick up a metal object in a tight space.
