Another "What Did I Buy" thread!
on: February 17, 2009, 10:52:05 PM
I got this from ebay and it arrived today. It was a bit grubby, so I've given it a good clean and it's as good as new.

I have no clue what it is, but I'm confident that someone will :tu:

Excellent - thanks guys.

Mine's different to Spoony's though as it has Scissors, serrated blade and corkscrew. In fact, I think it may have one extra tool? Spoon's seems to have 6, mine has 7 - bonus :tu:

I used to come here a lot.

I'm sure there is a thread with a discussion of a load of variations of this tool, but yeah there do seem to be quite a few different variations on it around :)

Yeah they all lock - even the corkscrew!

I like it, in the same way that I like my other Gerber stuff. I wouldn't want to depend on it, but I like it.

Its definitely an interesting item.  Gerbers seem to my inexperienced eye to be very hit and miss.  I don't think I'd ever feel confident in buying one if I couldn't play with it first.

I think it's the designs that are interesting, but generally speaking I don't think they perform as well as the LM, SOG and even the Vic MTs.

But if you are only going to get one Gerber, get the Recoil - it is awesome :D

Interesting tool that.  Seems to me Gerber have aimed it at the SAK market.

Possibly Gareth.

The casing is obviously unique, but all of the tools inside have come from the MP 600 I think. Same blades, drivers and openers, they would be interchangeable.

I agree the way it's presented is different but look at the tools you've got: tweezers, toothpick, micro driver, scissors, corkscrew, can opener etc.  if you didn't know what it looked like then, just going by that list, you would have to guess at a SAK.  I really don't mean this as a criticism, it's a good looking tool.  I especially like the fact the LED come out.  I wouldn't mind owning one.

No I agree with you. The comment about the MP600 was just musing whilst I look at it you see.

I'll keep an eye out for another if you like, but I bet you won't get it at the price I got this one (£4.19)  :P

I saw one on ebay earlier actually NIB - £30ish plus postage I think.

I used to come here a lot.

Same tools on all the MP series (400, 600, 700, 800) so yeah they are all interchangeable :)

I'll give you £5 for your one.  81p pure profit, you can't say fairer than that.  :pok: :D

TBH if I saw one for around the £10-£15 mark I might get it, but not much more I think.

Is that right? You'd think they'd make some bigger wouldn't you?

I only have the MP600 (x2), and that old Multiplier and a Diesel in that format, so haven't much to compare to in that series.

Gareth - yeah I wouldn't go too wild for one - it rattles like a Surge.

Well apart from the OH Blade and Scissors on the 7/800. Yeah you would have thought they would have made some larger ones, but like Bob said (in another thread) it is a result of the design on the tools that the implements are restricted to a certain size :-\

Yeah I do recall that now actually.

Must say, I am enjoying looking them over all these Gerbers, but they won't be replacing my Charge just yet :)

Its not a bad little gadget is it Dave? Not a mainstream EDC for sure, but a fun little doodad to play with nonetheless. :)

Best of all is that retina-roasting LED flashlight....make sure unwary bystanders avert there eyes when you turn it on! ;)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Interesting tool that.  Seems to me Gerber have aimed it at the SAK market.

I don't think Victorinox has much to worry about from these.
