Do You Carry a Multitool with Your Kilt?

Hey folks,

Curious question for the community—especially those who wear kilts regularly (whether for tradition, utility, or comfort): What’s your multitool carry setup when wearing a kilt?

"LINK REMOVED" offer a ton of freedom and airflow (not to mention style!), but they don’t exactly come with jeans-style pockets. I’ve been experimenting with different carry methods—belt pouches, sporrans, even boot clips—for keeping my trusty [insert multitool model] on me when I’m in full Highland mode.

Here are a few points I’d love to hear from others about:

What multitool do you carry when kilted?

How do you carry it? (Sporran? Belt sheath? Sock knife?)

Do you find any tools particularly kilt-compatible or inconvenient?

Any favorite pouches/sheaths that work well with traditional kilt gear?

For me, I’ve been carrying a Leatherman Wave+ in a horizontal belt sheath, but I’m not loving the bulk when it’s paired with a sporran. Thinking of switching to a slimmer tool like the Skeletool or even something clip-based for easier access.

Keen to hear from anyone else who blends the utility of multitools with the freedom of kilts!

Cheers,

My utility kilt has a pouch that's almost exactly sized for a 91/93mm SAK. When I go more traditional, I usually have some something in the sporran. I look at those multi-tool sgian dubhs, but they're too rich for my blood.

No rule against wearing a belt, is there?  If you're wearing a belt you can wear your usual belt pouches or organizers on that belt, over your kilt.  I wear a kilt when I'm working at the Renaissance festival for 8 consecutive weekends, but I cheat and wear cargo shorts under it for the pockets for my phone, wallet, etc., and generally carry a pliers-based tool and a knife on the belt on my shorts, under my kilt, and untucked shirt. This year I carried the Brisa Crafter and Victorinox Spirit at the festival on weekends attached to my belt under my kilt, and for the entire 2 months outside of festival as well.

Makes sense! I’ve looked at those multitool sgian dubhs too—very cool but definitely pricey. Might give a 93mm SAK a shot in the <--link removed--> next time I go traditional. Thanks!

I think you should listen to her. I was kind of iffy on it at first, but after a couple afternoons out I love mine.
