Day 15:
As I entered the room of a welcome back breakfast for a girl returning from maternity leave, one of the girls was trying to open a can of sweet corn and a can of peas with a kitchen knife.
Quick shove to the side, and the can opener shined once again!

I remember the day when I was asked why I needed a server with 1GB of disk space, it was so huge it would never be filled!

I find that I'm using the small blade more than anything else, as an opener.  I did have to resort to the Work Champ pliers to pull the tab off of a package.  I couldn't get a grip on it with my fingers

Yeah I have a few mechanical and solid state external drives as redundant backups for family pics and videos.  I don't really need 2TB or even 1TB, but its cheap so why not.

Ha Ha, I remember doing custom setup and configuration for a customer of ten IBM AT desktops, installing 30MHD into the empty drive bay, a double height disk drive.

Then I also recall tuning a 1200 baud modem on a data circuit to improve data transfer efficiency between a branch office and the FEDERAL HOME LOAN BANK.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

It was fun when you were in a chat room on AOL in about 1993, and when someone would pick up the landline in another room it would kill your connection.  And it took 2 minutes to download a pic.  Good times.

Took the Spartan along for a walk in the woods.

Opening a 2TB SSD.
I have two 128GB USB drives (basically SD cards in a small housing) and am only eating up about 30GB between the two. I couldn't ever see myself filling up a 2TB SSD!

The best use of a SAK is to cut open a package containing a new SAK!
:iagree:

I also recall tuning a 1200 baud modem...
My first home Internet connection used such a thing. We nearly had to clear an entire day just to read an e-mail. I do not miss those days.

Day 13

In 35 years (nearly three-quarters of my lifetime) of carrying SAKs, I have never had a need for the sewing eye. But it's one of those tools that adds utility without weight or bulk.

Dude! Thos 1200 baud modems were nightmares! Changing jumper to and fro, Com1 IRQ8...
We're old!

Those are the modern 1200 baud modems used in PC computers.

I am describing a analog 1200 baud modems that was hardwired to a dedicated point to point connection (4 wires, a receiver pair and transmit pair) that modulated the digital signal from a computer terminal to a mainframe front end processor, and then demodulated that replied signal back to digital to be displayed.

This Was back in 1973. Then soon to 1800 sync, then 2400sync, the 4800sync and then all the way to 9600.

Yours was using voice grade lines, two wires for both send and receive.

Also, adjusted CTS and RTS delays by lifting legs on a TTL Integrated Circuit on the computer terminal. Later these could be set in the firmware using ASCII

That is old!   Which I am.

It is funny, I was just reminded a few weeks ago, that what was taught to get my degree is no longer taught or mentioned in the text books today.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 13:
Thought I would talk about the reason I love the older (pre-85) SAKs. As much as possible that's what I carry when I have a 91mm. What I really like is that the cap lifter does not have a half-stop. In 45 years of carrying a Swiss Army Knife I have never once used the large screwdriver at 90°. I'm just not comfortable putting much torque on the tool in that position. Since I don't use that feature, having to push through the half-stop is an inconvenience. I know this is probably not a popular opinion, and it's definitely a first world problem, but it's important enough to me to seek out the older versions of the models I want. That's why this is my favorite Spartan.
