Dear Mods, I found out that there's a birth year SAK badge and was hoping I could request that! I can provide proof of my DOB if you need. I was also wondering, if any one knows, what is the correct straight/dressmaker's pin for the pin hole in the cellidor scales. I bought a 1 1/4" dressmaker's pin box, but they're too thick and don't seem to fit (even thought they're the right length). I was hoping to possibly avoid the official Vic ones because they seem to cost like $15 for ten of them, whereas these were about $7 for 350. If anyone has a solution for that I'd be grateful if they could share!

I believe the ones you purchased are steel!

The VICTORINOX ONES ARE STAINLESS!

I raided my wife’s sewing kit and pulled a few from s pin cushion and they fit without and issue.

A couple of knifes had a tight fit, but it likely was the inner channel having blockage. Forcing in with a pliers firmly gripping the pin and pushing accomplished the task.   A few pins did bend.

The pins that were fitted on models that included them seem a heavier straight pin, more stout imho!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

There is no requirement for proof of birth year.  It would never have occurred to me to doubt anyone's veracity.  Just a suggestion.  Why don't you apply for membership to the Swiss Army Knights?  You have been here for a while.  Find the thread and look up the requirements for that badge.  Best wishes.  G

To request the badge award! Select your profile, and under awards, find the BIRTH Year award, go to the right side of the screen and tap the request award

It will provide you a text window, make your request and include a link to the thread you started.

It makes it easier for the moderators to honor your requests.

The victorinox pin is about the equivalent of a #20 dress pin. And it’s stainless. This size isn’t very common in the US from what I’ve found.

I do know victorinox will just mail you one for free if you contact their support.

Yes, thank you for the reminder. I definitely remembered to do that this time. You're absolutely right — these ones are nickel-plated steel.

So, these ones are size 20, I think; they are a bit too wide to fit in the slot normally. I actually didn't know that I could reach out to Vic to get them. The issue is that I actually have kind of a backlog of Vics that don't have pins (and I like carrying different ones at different times). The first two things I do with any model (that has a corkscrew and a pin hole) is add a pin and an eyeglass screwdriver. The screwdrivers must be ordered from Vic, but I was hoping that there was a large-scale replacement I could find for the pins (since I need about 40 of them). I appreciate all the comments, though! In the photos below the one on the left is the official Vic one that came with the SC and the one on the right is one I...salvaged from my wife's sewing kit. The thing is she did have some that were the right length that fit circumferentially as well — although I can't for the life of me find them now — but a lot of Julia's sewing kit are hand-me-downs from her mother from Soviet Ukraine and I wouldn't even know where to begin to find similar ones. I guess my point is I think that there exist, somewhere, some that can be purchased and that would fit exactly. I just don't know where to find them.

Gary, so that's what was confusing me, actually. It says '#22, size 20: 1 1/4"'. Let me show you. So, there are two different size markings on the same box and it's very very confusing. But I guess these are 22s, then, since they don't fit?

Used to be any packaged shirt had enough pins stuck in it, you never had to buy extras.  It was quite a task to locate and remove all of them before you wore the thing.  I don't know if they still do that or not.
Looks like there may be a difference between #22 and size 22.
 Best wishes.  G

From what I remember looking for replacement pins awhile ago, it seems the size is really more the length and the diameter can vary. Especially between brands and as you move up and down sizes.

So, those are size 20, which should be close to the victorinox pin length. If they go in the slot and bottom out, I’d be a bit surprised unless their length was pretty far off what’s listed on the package. I’m guessing the diameter is too large.

This Reddit thread has some good info.

Haha, I definitely remember getting poked putting on a new shirt. I haven't bought a dress shirt in a while — I also wonder whether they're still pincushions.

I appreciate the thread link! Based on what I'm reading in this thread I may just find a reputable Vic dealer and order a few from them...

Always a great badge to own - Congratulations

And I did not even demand to see your birth certificate ;)

And why not get a SA Knights banner too? - As IMR suggests   ???

Congratulations on your new badge!

Thanks guys! And to be honest, Huntsman and Gary, part of the reason I haven't gone in for the SA Knights banner is that I've been trying to pick which of my EDC Swisschamps I want to photograph for posterity...

Huntsman, it's causing much more grief than I anticipated. I keep grabbing one and then thinking 'well that's not fair to the Climber I carried from 2014=2018', or 'that's forgetting about the SC your uncle gave you, which started off this whole collection'. I'll figure it out at some point. I hope.

SAKnights secret - I might be able to save you some pain  ;)

Even though we say post a picture of your EDC SAK - We are not too strict about there being only one SAK in the image.
So you can post a few - And TBH if you add in a little commentary along the lines of the above deliberations that will be interesting and great for the thread.  :salute:

Haha, much appreciated, Huntsman! I think I'll start on that write-up now.

Huntsman didn't say so, but it is required to copy the Knight's pledge in English first with your photo.  Then if you want to post the same pledge in Aramaic, ancient Greek, or Armenian, you can probably do that as well. Best wishes.  G

Haha, I have Greek and Armenian — for Aramaic I may need to phone a friend...
