Victorinox Onefold
on: March 18, 2026, 11:38:31 AM
Anyone out there have a Victorinox Onefold?  The scales with holes should be familiar, since Vic used them on their bladeless models.  It has quite a price on it for some reason.  Best wishes.  G

That will be a “NO” from me!

I do have a single blade ALOX in RED, unsure when made.

I just got one. Not at all happy with the liner lock combined with a strong backspring. I feel like I am going to lose a finger,

I heard that same comment from every YouTube reviewer.

For me, the riveted pocket-clip is my turn off.

If something will break, that is the feature that will fail.

I will agree that a pocket clip wouldn't do much good.  Maybe something like a rifle sling?  According to the specs, this thing is over 36 inches long, 9 inches deep, and almost 6 inches thick.  Impressive.  Best wishes.  G

The basic Alox single blade is $28 - which I would rather have.  That's not to say it wouldn't be cool if someone gave me a Onefold.     But I prefer the simple, slip lock design and price of the regular single blade flavor.

But IMR, it is only 45 grams, despite its enormous size!  Very low density.

I agree I can’t see paying double the cost of the alox Solo for the Onefold.

To me, the (non-knife blade) tools are a huge part of what makes Vic really stand out.  I often carry more than one pocket knife/tool, but if I had to carry just one, it would have to be a Vic because even a fairly basic model like a Climber or Spartan has so much more capability than just cutting stuff.

OTOH, if someone told me they wanted just a simple single blade pocketknife, my first thought would not be “Get a Vic!”, as I actually think there are better options out there for most folks with that use case.

Finally, there are certain sets of design features that work together (or don’t).

1. No lock, strong back spring, 2HO
2. Lock, weak back spring, OHO

For modern folders, a designer/manufacturer should really choose either 1 or 2.  Mixing and matching from both lists on the same knife is a recipe for dissatisfied customers, and that is what Vic has done with the locking 93mm knives.

I hear you on the listed measurements.
I have notice the same weird sizes on other items listed by AMAZON.  SUSPECT that AI is having difficulty converting metric to English, or mm to inches.

Way out of wack.

Sometimes I think we are getting the measurements of the box/package it comes in, rather than the item itself.  But the discrepancy is so large in this case that I’m not sure even that would account for it.

It may also be possible that whatever lookup/database retrieval function is supposed to grab the size info is just not looking at the right thing…

I was on the fence about the whole Synergy line. I was leaning against it until Casco Bay announced it as the VSAKCS knife for the year. That's enough to probably nudge it over the edge for me.

They seem to be pretty popular though, so maybe it'll grow on me.

I agree that the non-multi Vics are kind of iffy all around. I have a couple, and I awlways wind up preferring my similar models from other companies.

As others have said, I won't ever buy or a carry a SAK that doesn't have other tools specifically at least some type of screwdriver and going forward scissors....too many uses for that with a toddler. And I certainly wouldn't pay that price for the lack of other functionality and other flaws.

Some folks carry an MT like a Leatherman Rebar, for example, plus a folding knife for ease of use and quick deployment.  Mr. Steve posts pics of an MT with a traditional folder.  So there is a place in the MT and SAK world for a Victorinox Onefold, especially for those who combine it with another SAK or MT.

There's also the potential of a specific blade that has a dedicated purpose. I'm a big believer that there's always a right (multi)tool for every job. When one doesn't know what that job may be, it would be prudent for one to carry a multitool that provides a lot of options (for me either the Swisschamp, XLT, or LM Arc). However, I've also always carried a dedicated knife for food (prep). For the most part I can always just use whatever main blade I'm carrying but sometimes I like to carry a dedicated 'clean' (usually single-)bladed pocketknife. That way I can always be sure that it's a clean blade for food use/prep/whatever. Also, when in/with company, I've found that people are far likelier to be okay with me using a knife that just looks clean in order to: cut a piece of cake, cut through that last bit of pizza connecting two slices together that inevitably never gets cut properly, splitting a doughnut or other baked good in half, splitting a hot dog from Costco or Sam's Club or whatever in half, vel. sim. So in nuce I think it's never a bad idea to have an extra, light, usually single-bladed knife for food. The Onefold could very easily perform that function for someone.

The dark blue flavor of the Onefold is currently $44.33 on U.S. Amazon, with "free" shipping if you have Prime.  This is not a bad price in today's world.

Definitely like the new boxes more.

That modded Syngery looks pretty nice. The lighter duty pry-bary isn't a big deal on a "city" knife.

It is a good little folding knife. My preference for a "blade only" Alox SAK is the Swiss Army Two - same as the One but plus the small pruning blade.  It adds no thickness and only 4 grams in weight so you have a backup blade with almost no practical downside to having it. It does cost a little more, but from recollection not much.

Doughnuts, food blade, clean and dedicated, funny reminds me of the time we were at the lake.

I bought doughnuts the night before when I picked up night crawlers.

The next morning after a good trip on the water with my then 8 yr old son (#3), I was cleaning a mess of bluegill on the picnic table with my RAPALA 6” filet knife.

My #2, a daughter, with dirty hands and awl, after playing in the fire pit, comes over with a large applesauce cake  donut.  Bigger than she could eat alone.

Her younger brother asked for a piece.  She just looked at him.  I said lay it on the table, she did, mid fish, I wiped the blade on my shirt sleeve, sliced once, sliced twice, now there were four pieces of donut.  She looked at me, you are crazy, “I am not eating that now!”, her brother grabbed a piece and walked away!   I took a piece, pushed into my mouth, and just looked at her, a shoulder shrug and a piece in her dirty hand, she ran to catch up with her brother.
A few moments later my wife came over saw the donut and finished the last piece.

Everybody was good to go.  The daughter is now 47, a NURSE, my son, a fire/medic (45),  have hands on things far worst.

Dedicated knife, nah!

Then do not come visit my homestead.
Most Saturdays or Sundays I buy a couple dozen, cut in half and by noon after visits from grandkids and parents, two pots of coffee, a half gallon milk, box is just crumbs.

Sharing can also be healthy.
If you cut the doughnut in four, and eat each quarter separately with a two minute pause between each one, it might actually be less caloric than eating the whole pastry…
