Sheaths, any production data?
on: March 19, 2026, 08:44:22 PM
Thanks to Huntsman for directing me to start this as a new thread!  :hatsoff:

As a newbie to the LM game and struggling with a new hyper-fixation about sheaths and their production . I am looking to the knowledge base here for guidance. Is there data on when LM produced particular sheaths and what tools they fit? For example the early Super Tools had the box sheath and some came with a plain snap (94/95'ish it seems) and then later came with a "Leatherman" embossed snap. I know some came with nylon as well. And I am totally guessing at the date there but hopefully you get what I mean. And when did they stop the old school box sheath and change to the true black one? Were changes tool specific or by year across the board? You can imagine the rabbit hole of questions I have come up with :ahhh.

This may be a lost cause that you all have exhausted every avenue of information on years ago, but I appreciate any help you all can give me on this.

The transition from the old school Black leather / gold letters to the Black / yellow letter sheaths started when the Xytel series came out. All Black I believe started with Supertool 300, Rebar era.

Snaps were all over the place in the early years depending on supply.

To add to the confusion, Leatherman tried different sheaths in a limited run audience to gauge demand, as in sold only at their factory store in Oregon. Here are 2 examples. I think these date to around 2012 to 2016 but not sure.
