Vintage SAK's with sharpened underside of bottle opener?

I've searched and come up empty handed.  What is the sharpened portion on the bottom of the bottle opener used for on older SAK's?

So there's 2 wire strippers then, the sharpened edge and the notch?

For a period of time, yes.  From the wiki:

A sharpened edge on the cap-lifter for wire stripping; and the wire-bender/stripper notch were both added around 1951, the stripper edge was removed in the mid-70s.

My '67 SI has one.  It's a neat piece of history that you just don't see anymore.
