I still think the Wave is a great multitool. I bought mine way back in Feb 08 and been using the hell out of it since.

You shouldn't have got a Wave. You'll be too statisfied with it and you won't need as many multitools as before...

Great score Teo! :tu:

The Wave has more than a few advantages over its cousin the Charge. The Wave surely must be stronger, with its one-piece handles, plus it is easier to wipe clean if you get it in the grunge. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

You know Bob, I was thinking of that the other day.. The New Wave's handles have barely any torsional play, but the Charge's have a lot more!

I wonder too why I bought the Charge first and waited long before buying the Wave?

Congrats Teofilo! after handling the Wave and Charge, the Wave fit me better.

I'd be interested in hearing what factors contributed to that decision.

I have only handled the Wave. To me, the Wave is absolutely fantastic and I can't imagine the Charge being better enough to warrant anything near the price difference.

I have just about all of the newer Leatherman multis, with the exception of the Blast, Fuse, Kick, and thats right, the Wave.

I guess my collection will never be complete without it.

I thought Kwakster had said the Titanium model Charges were actually much stronger   I could be wrong though.

Found it Kwakster's thoughts re charge v wave.

While is like the Wave, have used it a lot and still use it occasionally, my vote goes to the Charge Ti.
Not only because i have a better grip on it, thanks to the titanium the tool as a whole is stronger and can handle more.
On the Wave the blades, the saw and the file are each only held with one big flathead screw, so no actual support on the other side, and the screwthreads used on them as axle are really thin.

The same items on the Charge Ti (and XTi of course) are held inbetween the frame and the titanium sideplates, which is a much stronger construction, and they also pivot around a much thicker piece of metal as an axle.

On the newer Charge AL and ALX the sideplates are aluminium, which is a little stiffer that titanium, but less stronger overall, but there are bronze washers used on both sides of the blades.
The Ti and XTi only use these on the inside.

You know, the only Charge I ever actually handled was Def's, when he came to visit, and to be honest with you, I wasn't that impressed.  Not that it wasn't a great multitool, don't get me wrong.  I just didn't see that much of a difference between the Charge and my Wave.  I forgot which model Def had, but it is really irrelevant.  Other then scale materials, and a few tool differences, all the Charges are essentially the same, you know?  The same as the Wave.  Granted, the Charge is a bit more ergonomic then the Wave, with it's one piece metal handles.  They CAN be a tiny bit rough on the hands when doing any heavy cutting with the blades, and Knife steel is a bit better on the Charge, but essentially, again, THEY ARE THE SAME TOOL, so why the big friggin price difference?  I love my Wave.  Not a perfect tool, but well built, tough as a tank, handy, and reliable.  Big enough to handle big jobs, small enough to carry comfortably.  When I have it clipped to my pocket, it isn't really that bad of a carry, and when it is on my belt, it disappears from my attention.  These are a bit elaborate in their construction compared to a Blast, Super tool, or Core style multitool, but still a great user.

My Wave is even closer to a Charge than most I have 1 with 154cm steel for the PE blade :D That is another reason I have been holding off getting a Charge :o :)
