Bonkers Bonkers Sportratchet
on: March 06, 2009, 11:38:55 AM
I got this odd red brick in the mail today , I think it might have fallen off the nut house's welcome gate. All this time , as a Surge lover, I have endured the never ending jibes about the Surge being : a anchor ,a brick ....... mainly from the lovers of all things Swissy. I say "Cobblers too you" Victorinox invented the original brick it's called 'The Sumoratchet/Sportratchet' . Sport sport   how is a red brick sporty  :ahhh

Do not get me wrong I have wanted one of these Maddies for awhile & I am well pleased I got it.A number of things odd about it; it'sHUGE , I was surprised how much plastic was used to make it (esp the ratchet housing  :o), I wonder how well they held up too hard use  .

For those amongst us who have not handled the lardyratchet I have done some comparisons to my Riveted PST & the positively svelte Surge  :D :D

That's another oddball down Mat  :tu:

I'm not sure what Victorinox were thinking when they decided the big red brick was a good idea   ::)     ??? Nope, still no idea.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

:D

Weight-wise though, the Surge has them all beat still.  The big problem with the SportRatchet is that there's so much bloody wasted space!  Victorinox was always great at sticking functions into every nook and cranny- Plus scales being the ultimate example of that- but the SportRatchet was this wide open, gaping hole with some odd bits stuck in it.

I cannot comment on the weight that I have not personally measured... many tools are listed as weighing different amounts than the results I have found, so I don't have faith in what manufacturers claim the weights to be.  :P

I have held one once, and only for a few moments...  ditto for the Paladin tool, and neither time was I able to weigh them.

I guess I need to add my scale to my 10 EDC items!  :D

I got one about a week ago from fleabay...it is a good thing I carry a murse, because there is no way to carry the monstrosity without a pack. :D my only "real" complaint is the plastic ratchet housing. I mean, c'mon guys...with how big and heavy the tool is why bother trying to save a few oz's? Should have gone for the durability factor instead
