With so many rescue and emergency oriented tools on the market, it doesn't make much sense
not
to have a special area dedicated to them, now does it?
From Gerber's Hinderer, to NOV8's ResQMe, to Benchmade's ERT-1/Houdini series, Rescue Tools are breaking out all over!

If I could find enough old, junked cars, I would test the capabilities of each and every one of these- think Mythbusters type testing, where I'm in it, underwater and have to cut my way out to survive!
Unfortunately I don't have a ready supply of old cars, so most of the rescue features have to be assessed in day to day situations, at least by me. I'm not a big fan of handing a new, untried tool to a person who actually performs these kinds of duties as I'd hate to the tool to fail, or even cause them to lose seconds figuring out how the heck to open it!
So, a Rescue Forum seemed like a good idea, so folks can see what things look like, how they work, and make their own decisions based on what they need, or think they need.
Vic scored a winner with the Rescue Tool alright- which is why they are being copied
hard
right now, and I'd suggest that if you want one, you stick to a registered dealer.
Rescue FAKES!
But remember, Vic also makes a Rescue version of the SwissTool, the RS version, which also includes a curved, serrated Rescue blade:
Right side in this picture.
As such, it wasn't their first foray into rescue knives, and they had a pretty good idea of what they were doing!

If the RS would be considered a rescue tool, the Vic OH Fireman, Jumpmaster, and Parachutist would all be classified as rescue tools too, right?

They certainly could, but the RS in SwissTool RS stands for Rescue and Survival.

So do I. I think it's important for everyone to have some sort of tool on them to help themselves or others out of any life threatening situations.

I couldn't agree more. I have wanted to do a Rescue Tool section for a while, and for the longest time I have wanted to create a new section on the main site for it, but the more I thought about it, and the more problems we encountered there (how to index reviews mostly- by manufacturer or by type, or try to install a new component that allows multiple indexes etc) it occurred to me that this might just be a better way to do it.

I recall you mentioned there's a "police" version (i.e. pointy not blunt with black handle) of gerber hinderer coming out, any news?

It's the Hinderer CLS, and as far as I know, it's been on shelves for a while now:

Thanks, slipped past my radar for some reason. Shame they stuck with 440A on it and made it with part serration not full.

Yeah, Gerber has never really competed all that much in the steel race, which I am glad to see in a lot of ways. For years 440 served everyone quite well. Yes, there is better out there, but I don't see 440 itself as a
bad
thing, just not as good as it could be.

440C is good no doubt, but 440A is just too soft in my experience. Consider the price they charge, which is more than spyderco endura, at least put 440C in it.

Here is a good review of Gerber's rescue tool. Sorry maybe should I have posted this in the reviews section?
If so my apologies.

Shouldn't the tread on spotting counterfeit Victorinox Rescue Tools be moved to this forum.
