Does anyone EDC their LM Charge TTi?
on: March 16, 2009, 07:31:20 AM
This is more for me than to ridicule others.

But the deal is, that I cant really bring myself to actually carry my TTi. I just sometimes feel as if I had maybe spent too much money on it to actually carry it.

But the other reason that I dont carry it is because I have other tools such as the Charge ALX and the AL as well as the ST200 and a few others even that I would carry before I carried the "most expensive tool that I own."

I hate to think that way, so I just want to basically be talked into the fact that its just a tool and its made to be used.

I just feel like I may have spent too much money on it to carry it at all. But, Im making this thread because I have no idea why I bought it if I am not gonna carry it.

If you can get past my ranting, please post...

I used to edc my LM Charge Ti because one it was my first and only multitool back then (gift from my little brother), EDC it almost everyday for more or less 3 years then I bought a LM SURGE. I still do EDC the Charge if I'm not in the farm.
But I do understand why you sometimes don't want to EDC your Charge TTi but it would be a waste not too.
Multitools are the best thing that happened to mankind since the invention of the wheel!

I do (did). I use mine for everything I can get away with, but have recently stopped EDCing it as I am now fearful of being arrested for it.  ::)

But in terms of price paid for it, my logic goes along the lines of:

- It is the most expensive tool out there because it is made with premium materials, and is therefore robust;
- It is the closest thing to the perfect MT I have yet encountered;
- It's still in production if I lose it;
- It is warrantied if I break it.

Sooo, what do I have to worry about (other than UK laws of course).

I used to come here a lot.

What Dave said. I used to edc mine too. It's a solid MT, hard as nails. I didn't worry a moment about damaging it and it never failed me in that field. Boy, I loved that serrated blade with the gutting hook and main blade was a charm to work with! It eventually got "promoted" to my outdoors MT, mainly due to its weight and its mean looks, with the Spirit taking its place in my EDC blob. I'm not sure what the knife laws are around here but I was never ever searched (having a baby face and doing a certain job certainly helps). A policeman saw me using it once and he only asked me if it was any good and where did I get it from. ::) FWIW I have the impression that the TTi's weren't as expensive as they are now when they first came out. IIRC I got mine for ~$90 shipped a couple of years ago and I've seen them selling for double that these days. Anyway, as Dave said, it'd be sad to have such a powerhouse and leaving it home.

I carry and use mine regularly. Price doesnt keep me from using a tool. In fact the more I spend on one the more I want to use it to get my monies worth out of it.   :D
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

I am somewhat of an oddball, even in this community, as far as the number of tools that I edc (at the same time).  However, the TTi is the only tool that is on my belt (place of honor/most accessible).  I really like it for the outside accessible tools (duh...), as well as the amount of bits I have with it.  My Wave just recently got back from Belize, and I really notice a difference between the two.  I think the OHO blades are easier to work on the Wave, but the Charge definitely feels better in the hand.  Just my $0.02...

I'll rephrase what a friend of mine used to say (although he was referring to computers): you've spent the money to have that thing for a given amount of time; if you use it half of the time, eventually you have paid double what you think you did...  ;) Then again, he was a Mac user... ::)

I don't really get that line of thinking.  As you spent so much money on it you are now worried about using it?  I would be worrid about spending so much and not using it.  Just think, the more you don't use it, the more you have wasted.  ;)

I found it the perfect EDC option when paired with my Swisschamp.  :salute:

It went everywhere I went.

However, current Knife laws prevent me from EDC'ing it at present so I pair my Swisschamp with a Sog PP  :-X

I carry a Charge XTi on the days when I don't work, like today it's on my side. Lately I have been rotating between the XTi and the Spyderench, but due to the needlenose the XTi sees more action. I like to think the XTi can handle everything I throw at it, it does everything I have asked of it thus far. If I feel it's not up to "size" to handle something I will grab a bigger tool, other than that it handles most I come in contact with on a regular basis. Tools are not only meant to be used but Leatherman doesn't sport a 25 year guarantee on on their tools for no reason. If you get a little rough and you mess it up then you have a chance to get it fixed. The TTi I am sure is a great tool, I am fan of all of the Charge models and I think they are all up to the endurance test.

I agree completely. I carried my SuperTool almost every day for over ten years. Last year I picked up a titanium Charge to replace it and if it gives me ten years of service I will be satisfied as well. Price is relative though. I have and use knives that cost over $300 so beating up on a sub hundred dollar MT doesn't faze me in the least. I think with the great warranty that Leatherman gives us, using the more expensive models is less of a problem.

My rule (for me) is simple, if I buy it, it gets used. I cannot afford, nor do I desire to be a collector, so no drawer queens for me. If you won't carry it, possibly sell it to fund something you will carry and/or use or use the money for something else all together.

Because it is after all meant to be used.

Use a lanyard if you're worried about losing it.  I can't EDC mine due to UK laws - I wish I had the option.Go on take it out and use it :). It's too good a tool not to get used.

I would'nt think twice about EDC'ing mine if it was legal to do so, so good news you're going to do it. It upsets me we have so many laws on what you can and can't do here in the UK. Yeah I Know, the law's the law but emigration is looking like an attractive option  :(

My first TTi (the BPS one) has been a user for about 4 months now...never go anywhere without it :)

Money hasn't really been a big problem with it as it was a gift from a mate :tu:

I'm glad you going to start using it! The Charge TTi is too good of a tool to let it sit in a draw; I have five of them!

For those that have the ones with the camo finish,  how does that hold up under heavy use?

I have used my TTi very hard :D

The camo is quite tough compared to other LM offerings...like BO

I have notive some wear where the pocket clip touches to Ti.

I'll see if I can take some pictures tomorrow...promise!!!!!!
