Title: Got a swissgrip!
Post by: SoDak on February 24, 2012, 11:19:13 PM
Decided to go out and check the local pawnshops today and to my excitement I found a wenger swiss grip. The best part? It only cost me $10.60. The tool is in pretty good shape with a slight bend in the blade tip and one of the scales is cracked and kind of wants to come off (can I just epoxy it back on?). I'm just happy I was able to get an example of one for a fairly reasonable price.

Here's two quick pictures I took of it.

Sweet!  Great score!

Yes you can epoxy the scale back on, or this is a great opportunity to mod some custom scales for it!  :D

Ok, now I'm kind of digging the idea of custom scales. I think I'll just give it a good cleaning and stash it in case I decide to go that route.

On another note, when I was looking underneath the broken scale, it looked like the pin holding the back end together was stainless steel rather than brass. Did I see that right?

Could be- I've never seen a "naked" one before.

I'll give you $10.75 for it right now! :ahhh :gimme:

Really nice find!  Hopefully that tip will just bend back into line with the use of a vise or vise grip (careful though!)

I pounded it a bit flatter last night, but I think I'm going to just leaver it for now. I tried straightening the tip of a knife blade on a pst once and snapped it off. I have like 6 pst's and that was one of my rougher ones so no biggie. I don't want to risk that happening to what's likely my only Swissgrip.

I don't know if it's the "right" way, but I use a vise an slowly tighten the jaws down on the blade (usually with flat washers on each side of the blade).
