Title: I just bought a HTC Desire..
Post by: AHB on May 30, 2010, 11:18:44 AM
and I'll pick it up later today..  :D
From what I've read and seen I think this is just the right phone for me. I stumbled upon a 1 week old HTC at a local marketplace, so
I really look forward to getting it. I've always been buying the standard phones, but this one I had to have..
If anyone has any thoughts/ideas for some "need-to-have" widgets, please let me know..  :)

A chap at work went from an Iphone to one of these. HE loved it, better apps, user friendly, everything he wanted in a phone.....But the battery only lasted just over one day!  He got fed up with it and sold it. It may have just been a duff battery in his, so it'll be good to see how your new one lasts.

I must say I'm very impressed with the Desire.. :tu: I haven't by far gotten 'round to all of the functions, but surfing, mail, ect. is up and running.. :)
I read a few reviews saying that the battery is used more quickly when having Push email, WiFi and similar things running, So I made a shortcut for shutting down WiFi when I'm not using it..

And sideways. :)

No, bit I just ordered this genuine leather HTC pouch from Fleabay.uk for 10.79 £ shipped to Denmark.  :tu:
I don't carry anything on my belt so it'll be for carrying in my pocket or in the versipack..

Damn nice phone...I have the HTC Droid Eris and love this thing. There really is nothing I cant do with this thing. As a matter of fact im in Ohio listening to a police scanner in China on it. Ive downloaded a lot of the free apps and this thing just keeps on cruising.

Congrats on the new phone and enjoy!!!

I'm looking at the Orange Boston,
(http://img.xatakamovil.com/2010/04/orange-boston-xm.jpg)

which is an android phone as well, albeit an older version of android... but it's a damn lot cheaper than any of the other smartphones I have access to...

Battery live does suck on them. I have an extra battery and bought a cradle to charge it everynight. I also have a USB cord for my comp. Mine tends to run low when ive been surfing the net or sending mass emails thruought the day. I also installed a task killer to shutdown unused apps. Most of the folks ive talked to has this same complaint so its common with a lot of the android powered phones..

The HTC batterys start off crap but do get a lot better with time - my Hero went from lasting barely 6 hours moderate use without charge to lasting a day and a half on moderate charge.  I know at least a dozen people with desires and they say the same thing - once you get through the initial appalling battery life it's much more bearable. Annoyed they decided to go for a proprietry AC format for the desire though, I like having USB cables to charge my phone with wherever i go.

I'm definitely sticking with Android for my next phone, it's got almost all the functionality of my old winmob but much better UI and speed.

Post by: Neil on July 06, 2010, 08:34:53 PM
I had a play with one the other day.  UI took a little getting used to, not as friendly or slick as Apple's offering but a leap above WinMob.

Don't think I'd get one though, aside from the expense I found the screen very very poor outside, looked lovely indoors though.  I've also heard of quite a few people having issues with corruption of the SD card both stock and third party  :ahhh  I remember having a similar problem with an older HTC and they never did provide a fix :(

I quite like the look of Palm's webOS, shame the hardware doesn't seem to be as good as the competition.

I can't actually afford one :)  I just got to play with one for a couple of days.  They're a new release of course, by the time my contract is up I might be able to get one bundled free or cheap.

If a phone is out in the UK then a bit of haggling will mean you can always get it free :D with the exception of the iPhone of course. I've never paid a penny for a phone aside from the contract charges, which are dropping every year as i drive an even harder bargain for my custom! My last 18 month contract was unlimited texts, unlimited internet, 600 minutes and 30 picture messages, with a free HTC Hero when it first came out, for £22 a month, simply because every time i renew i tell them i'm going to o2 to get some super, and completely fabricated, contract that they've offered me.
