According to Ed Schempp, designer for Spyderco and USPS, Leatherman's champion steel may not be all its cracked up to be!

That’s the new boomerang heat treatment. You use it for throwing knives that will return to you.

Anyone who has had fleas on them will know that's quite a curse.

Possible, but unlikely.  Ed is a well known and respected knifemaker who has been supplying designs to Spyderco for years.  He doesn't really seem like the attention hound type.

That’s gonna leave a mark.

My first thought.  Just having a little fun.  What proof have we that the package still has the contents in it?

If it did happen, maybe this got caught up in the machinery.
