How about someone explain what "Budgie" means.  I thought I had it figured out as a parrot but it seems to be a pretty versatile word.

I grew up on the east coast of canada so have been exposed to a lot of interesting variants.

One day I was "talking" with someone from Newfoundland. Oh man, definitely a grin and nod conversation.

Afterwards my wife very delicately (sic) asks me WTF was she talking about?

There's also a Budgie key, which is used to open hatches and lockers on trains & buses.
