Got the Nite Ize LED upgrade for my Mini Maglite.

Seems pretty cool.  I don't know, though.  I'm gonna have to give it a try for a while, and then come back to the Incan bulb and see how it works out for me.  I am not completely sold on the LED thing yet.  Call me old fashioned, old school, or stupid, but... well, there you have it.

Is it the three LED module or the 1 watt one?

I have the one watt and I keep it as an emergency light since it will run forever on a set of batteries.  I miss being able to focus though.

Cheaper?  I think not.

Certainly not if you use your light very much.

After several battery reloads (each reload = 2xAA cells) the cost will begin to even out.

After a few more reloads the LEDized MM will pull ahead of the incan bulb MM, saving you money in batteries.

(And, that doesn't consider the cost of replacing burned out incan bulbs.)

You can still focus with the 1 watt upgrade.  It's the 3-LED upgrade that you can't focus with.

I have the three bulb upgrade, and yeah, I have to get used to not focusing.  All I hear are positive things about these, so let's see how it goes.

I guess mines defective because I can only turn it a little bit, because of the new reflector, and there is only 1 led in there.

A lot of the focusability is lost with the 1-watt upgrade, but there is a small bit available.

They make great emergency lights due to the extra runtime you get over the incan.

I was using it today a little bit, and I have to say the lack of focusability is a mute point.  I mean, the beam of light is pretty uniform, as compared to the old Incan beam with the black hole in the middle, so it really doesn't really need to be focused.

I really like mine, the 1w LED is a massive improvement on the older bulbs. It means I get to still use a form factor I like and I suppose I'm somewhat sentimental about - they were the first proper torches that could take a bit of neglect.

I feel the same way about my Mag Lites.
