Spelling and grammar? Well, english is not my mother tongue so every post is a bet. And yet it's an adventure full of fun and plot twists: for instance, how come the spell checker in Firefox is saying to me, just right now, that 'english' is wrong? I mean, how can it be wrong? It's the first english word you learn!

I think it's supposed to be English not english. ;)

Honestly I'm amazed as to the level of English we get form non-native speakers.  I studied German at school and have never had to use it since, so now I can barely think of individual words let alone put down a sentence that would make any kind of sense.

Without any disrespect to the Germans, I'd have been so much better learning French or Spanish.  In my life I have been called on to try and speak German once, and once only (it was a long time ago so I just about managed).

I actually found German a lot easier than French, probably because there's more of it in the current English language. However, Spanish was easier than both for me and I still understand it fairly well. This I put down to the phonetics - it looks like it sounds with the addition of a few fairly simple rules.

English is utterly horrible phonetically  :(

I also took Spanish at Business school, but if you don't use it, it'll dissapear.. I probably still can ask you in spanish, what you got in your bag, though...  :D

Why are online translators so bad at translating? Example...

English: Help! Mike is looking at my Bratwurst!

Babelfish German: Hilfe! Mike betrachtet meine Bratwurst!

Back to English: Assistance! Mike regards my fried sausage!  ::)

You would think you would get the same phrase back

I have a confession to make…….If I am going to be writing longer posts then I usually use MS Word and the spell check. In the beginning there where LOTS of words that I wrote wrong but now I have become MUCH better at writing English and I sucked at writing English in school, I could read and speak English perfectly but I was useless writing it…………………..So MT.O have helped me in more ways than one

I must say that I really want to learn German and the little German that I know is not everyday use German either, you can only come so far when the only German you have learned is from speeches by a little short man with a weird mustache and German porn movies :P
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.
