Victorinox Waiter--Wilderness Explorer model
on: December 24, 2009, 10:04:51 AM
Took me awhile but finally figured out what this "WE" symbol is for. It is for "Wilderness Explorer" from the movie "UP". The knife is a Waiter model with the standard logo being replaced with the screen printed "WE" logo. Cute movie even for grown-ups.

He had been stranded for days, swallowed by the panama green. The light struggled to pierce the canopy to reach him standing lost on its half rotting soil. Fatigue brought on by the endless hunger, he realised he could of been wandering in circles. To be honest he couldn't be sure. Nevermind, mustn't lose hope,. Wearily he looked round for somewhere to shelter for the night.. there. That would do. Now what. Drink. yes, musn't dehydrate. He shambled over to the arm thick vines. Beneath them, a bottle of savignon blanc. He smiled and pulled out his Waiter. It had once again proven tat with it he was indeed prepared. Prepared to survive the wildernes.    :tool::rofl:

It is cool but why didn't they put it on a camper or a lumberjack..

I think you may have just answered your question. A waiter in the bush is about as prepared as that boy in the movie. :D

I am going to see if I can find one off of eBay. Nice movie tie in for the collection.

Looks like Swiss Champ to me too. :tu:

As to why a Waiter is used for the promotional knife, i suspect it's just down to cost.  The Waiter must be the cheapest "full-sized" SAK a company can buy as a promotional item.

yes...
i was being silly, they probably skipped the bantam as the public at large believe in the misconception of that its a genuine SAK if it has the corkscrew.

Good spot! I had missed that before and the movie does not really have him using a knife that I remember.

As far as the knife goes, I acquired it in a lot so where it came from originally is not known. I figure as a advertisement knife typically a company would purchase something cost effective to distribute. Actually I am surprised they did a Waiter and not just a classic instead. Could be both floating around out there though.

Cute Waiter, but even cuter movie; I recommend others to see it.  Very nice find, Stressmaster. :)

Nice find. I have looked high and low, albeit for one day, to no avail.

Just gives me something else to look for.  :salute:    :D
