the Smithsonian Channel just started a 3 or 4 part show "The Sword" part one history.  They said that samurai would sleep whith their wakizashi and katana.

So anyone sleep their tool/knives?

Just another weirdo with a beard :B:

I never let my EDC pack be anywhere away from me for more than 1 metre away, because it holds everything that I need to do pretty much everything, including my MTs. :)

I would imagine that if you looked at Knights or Archers or whatever combatant throughout history, they slept with their weapons too.  I spent many a night with my M-16 when I was in the Army and I would bet other Vets did too.  I even had to sleep with an M60 a couple times.  So sleeping with a weapon is very common.

I don't have a reason to sleep with a weapon, so I don't.  I don't consider MT's or SAK's as a weapon I would use to defend my home with if I did have a reason.  Not to mention, my wife would think I had lost it if I showed up in bed with an MT or an SAK.

I'm not a huge fan of comparing MTs and SAKs to weapons.  I spend half my time arguing with people that my EDC SAK is not a weapon but a tool (apart from the deadly mini-screwdriver of course).

I don't feel the need to sleep with a SAK/MT in arms reach.  There is usually one in the room somewhere (and its got a GITD fob on it usually) and thats good enough for me.

Exactly the way I feel Rich.  The reason we have such anti-knife paranoia in this country is that the general public think Knives=Weapons.  Whereas I'm constantly telling anyone that will listen that knives are one of the most ancient tools mankind ever devised (beaten only by a blunt rock and fire) and without them we'd still be covered in fur and swinging through the trees.

A bit like mike then?  :D

The attitude towards knives is more relaxed here in NZ.  I've taken my LM Charge into work on numerous occasions and the only people who have ever had any issue with it are the other Brits that work in the hospital.

I really hope the anti-knife thing in the UK will change one day, I just don't see it happening.  Sad really :(
