Some observations of the Wenger Snife Series
on:
March 14, 2010, 07:38:14 PM
I am sure many here have seen one of these before. Some kind of crazy looking design on the scales of a Wenger Commander or Esquire. Some look very nice while others seem kind of like WTH happened
kind of stuff. I have owned several over the years and still have a couple of them but it is hard to find all the models. Some seem to be more rare or hard to find for sale while others are found more frequently.
The paperwork included with my recent acquisition "Handy" and "Dreams" model indicates they released 3 different editions. 2 sets of 5 models in the larger "Commander" size and finally 1 set of 5 "Esquire" models. The 2nd Edition for the Commander series being the following 5 designs; Handy, Crackers, Mystic, Amazon and Gems. The previous 5 must have been the first to be released. I do not have any paperwork showing them. Those being Zebra, 7th Avenue, Rhythm, Crazy and Waves. See an example of the paperwork here;
As well all have seen these knives wear pretty badly. That is due to the scales being white underneath a pretty printed design. Scratches show up very easily and the edges wear off due to normal pocket wear leaving a white ring around the edge. Wenger knives have the edges of the scales more exposed than the Victorinox counterparts so edge wear is much more pronounced on the Wengers.
Waves and Handy seem to come up for sale pretty often while most of the others do not. I would say the hardest to find are Zebra, Amazon and Mystic from the large Snife series and Atlantis and Lava from the small series. I recently acquired a lightly used Mystic and a couple of the smaller Esquire models. I have a well used Waves model but it is pretty used up so I am on the hunt for a replacement Waves.
More photos coming!

Here is some photos of a few Esquire sized Snife models and the paperwork for them. Paperwork showing these are the 3rd edition with Esquire sized models and names listed.
They are Fortuna, Paradise and Dreams in that order on the photos.
Here you can see the ends where it is clear they are white scales with a printed design.

They are interesting knives. They rarely come up on eBay.ca though.

I'm giving serious thought to selling some of mine. I was going to try and grab them all but from the UK that's looking pretty unlikely to ever occur. I might just keep Crackers as my example of the
species
and part with the rest.

As mentioned before the Snife series suffers from a serious wear and tear problem. The scales are actually WHITE with the fancy design printed on. With some EDC use and now you have this which is a well used "Waves" model Wenger Snife.
Some recent photos for a few more large Commander model Wenger Snife;
And here is a group photo of the large Commander model Wenger Snife that I have acquired over the years.
