What do you think knifeless EDCs?
on: April 20, 2010, 10:53:44 PM
I finally made a knifeless EDC (my Powerlock)

Since I am a college student I don’t need a saw, awl, or knife, and scissors are more useful and a knife could get me in trouble (thankfully not yet).  However I know that some have different ideas about knifeless MTs.

So what do you think knifeless EDCs?
No I would not
Maybe not EDC but certainly useful
I like the idea

I think it's going to get ever more relevant :)

I carry a sak anyway seeing as the major MT manufactures seem to find it impossible to make a full size slippy MT ::)

I don't need a knife (so much as a pointy part) too often so I'm all for it. :D

Of all the tools I use and carry a knife is the one I use the most.  That doesn't mean to say I don't like bladeless tools but only as a companion to one with a blade.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I'm with Neil on this, but I'm tempted to go knifeless with my powerlock so that it would be UK legal, I carry a Vic Climber so I could perhaps live with it

Due to work restrictions, I EDC a Knifeless Fuse. In fact, I rarely encounter a time when I wish I had a knife. The little pair of scissors are rather surprising in what they can do.

if i have another knife on me, i would rather not have a knife on a MT. Even the charge's knife isnt as ergonomic and useful as a simple folder, so a knife is not a deal breaker for me

I rarely use the blade on my plier based tools , so I guess a knifless Spirit would work for me . At amy rate it would be backed by at least a 91mm SAK and a Rambler .

Certainly a good idea for the blokes in the UK where I understand knife laws are rather strict compared to where I live.

I don't often use the blade on my MT, but that's because it is a blast and takes awhile to get out.  I always have a SAK on me, so that makes a blade and one back up, which I consider essential.  The only time I can see needing a bladeless MT would be if I were to visit the UK, in which case I would just carry a PST or Knifeless fuse and SAK.  Once I get my charge, I may start to use the MT blade a little more.

Oh sure you will buddy. :D For me the blade is one of the most important part of an MT, so I just can't go without one.

The charge seems like a perfect fit for me, and the blades are said to be of the best stuff so they hold an edge longer.  I am really looking forward to playing with this one a bit once it arrives.  I used to carry just my blast everywhere, and then I found EDC forums and MT.O, and that was then end of carrying just one tool.  Now I can't leave the house without my MT and at least one SAK on me, usually two.  I find that I use the SAK's quite a bit, and at work the LM is constantly used.

I couldn't go without a knife. I use it more that anything. I could see carrying a knifeless MT along with a folder, which to me is pretty practical. I always carry an OHO knife just so I don't have to dig the knife out of my multi just to cut some tape, open an envelope or some other quick task. I would like to see more companies offer knifeless options, due to the aformentioned, as I know I'm not the only person on this forum who does so. And secondly, I hate having to keep my MT in my checked bag when traveling. And we also have to face that there are more and more places you can't take a knife nowadays...

People have their knifeless fuse "confiscated" by TSA, so don't count on it even if it doesn't have a blade.

I've been tempted to go knifeless. But then it raises the question about awls, scissors, saws, or anything else that's long/pointy.  If I decide to get rid of the blade, those other items might have to go with it.  For the most part, i have had no problems with knives in public.  i get so used to clipping one on everyday that I used to have one 99% of the time at school.

Knifeless EDCs are nice as you can carry them almost everywhere - just carry an extra knive if you need one.
I like to have a "one tool does it all" - EDC though.

I am currently thinking about my new selfmade multi: Should i add a small pocket knive like the böker keycom or should i leave it as bare foldable pliers and carry the böker seperatly?

In the UK it is interesting but for me it does need a knife. I use the knife on my MT on a daily basis and I like to carry as little as possible. So a MT including a OHO knife is perfect for me. And in my work is very common to carry a knife  :D

Knifeless EDC as in a knifeless MT accompany a knife, or entirely knifeless EDC? I've thought about modding my LM fuse with saw and file since I never use the knife on a MT, but an entirely knifeless EDC? No way.

Legalities and obssesions aside, no I don't like a knifeless MT for EDC. It would be nice if companies produced them for our UK bretheren though I agree. I almost always use my dedicated folder when I need a blade so although I could get by with one (knifeless MT), I much perfer to have the redundancy. Two is one and all...

Legalities aside, I would like to see more knifeless options out there.  I tend to carry more than one tool at a time and it always seems silly that I end up with 2,3 or ever 4 blades on me.  I'd not want to go without a blade of some kind but I really don't need that many.

I do also understand the need to have totally knifeless options for those who's personal situations demand it, whether it be workplace, school or some other rules.
