Need idea's
on:
June 23, 2010, 12:24:23 PM
Hi I'm all new to this Multi-tool business.
It's my birthday coming up and I wanted some idea's on what to put on my ultimate wishlist. I'm looking for the ultimate multi-tool but I also want lots of fun idea's for my key chain as its looking bare at the moment.
Ultimately want to have something on me for every just in case scenario.
So impressed with what people have done themselves on here but I think I'll start with the bought ones.
Look forward to hearing your suggestions,
Thanks Barry.

Standard answer is, what are you going to use it for? But as a general tool, I love my LM Wave! And a LM squirt on the keychain if you want to go the LM route, as I did

Yee I think I'll go down the leatherman route to start with, need one to be close at hand and stop me going to the shed for tools all the time just for small simple jobs.
thanks for that to start me off on my search.

I pretty much always carry a LM wave and LM micra or Vic classic on my keychain, all handy and all pretty compact,

I currently EDC a Leatherman Squirt P4 on my keys, though that might change to a PS4 soon.
In addition, I also have an ITP A3 EOS light and a Trust money capsule on my keys.

This is my current keychain setup. Although I've swapped out the Squirt S4 for a Vic Classic Signature; it is lighter and I always have a larger multitool to hand anyway
I tried to keep it minimal; everything on it gets used quite regularly. The whistle was last used when I had to be the 'doorman' at the kid's bouncy castle on Sports Day
It's amazing how they all hear a loud whistle lol.

Good idea! The Micra is a perfect starter for his multitool addiction

Thanks guys such an interesting response, think I will go for the Leatherman Micra. Like the look of it in grey, top of my birthday wish list. Did come across the True Utility MultiMate Mini on my search though seems similar but a bit cheaper hadn't heard you guys mention this before though, has anyone come across it?

I'm new to all this too BarryTool and I found the MultiMate Mini seems a little much for me at the moment but looks spot on for what you're looking for.
I've had other more key chain items from them before and found the quality really good.
Hope that helps in some way

I love my Vic Manager on my keyring, plus a Fenix E01. Everything I really need, small, compact and reliable.

I like the Leatherman Wave or Charge SLV. Great tools for every need. I prefer the Leatherman's to Gerbers because the Leathermans handles have space when unfolded for torc while the gerbers handles press together which can make it a pain to use since you constantly have to avoid pinching your fingers.
welcome and good luck.
happy early bday too!

Amici,
When it comes to edc keychain carry, I tote the following at any given time depending on my situation attached to a titanium O ring, stainless steel pocket clip, and all attached by McGizmo clips for easy deployment:
1-Leatherman Micra or Squirt S4
2-Stainless steel peanut lighter
3-Stainless steel Inka pen
4-P38
5-Aluminum alloy whistle
6-Streamlight Nano light
7-Gerber Artifact
I also carry a clip streamlight and bounce back between either a SAK, Juice, or a nice slipjoint like the Case Half-Whittler.. Any makes a nice companion to the Micra or Squirt.
Cheers,
Serge
