Is the 108mm series coming back?
on: July 13, 2010, 04:53:22 AM
Hello everyone:

I just saw this in victorinox europe web site! http://www.victorinox.com/product/1/100/1003/0.8710;jsessionid=DD38C767E390CD6AF1BF130F18AF0832 :think:
Could the series make a comeback? I recently got a NOS ( New Old Stock) OD Trooper from Tim ( the catman) and i just love the thing! :D It's like having a Forester but much lighter. I forgot the Trooper was in my pocket. I also have a 09 DD Soldier and that one is hard to forget it's in your pocket. My biggest concern was how would the combo tool perform in the can opening department and sure it's not near as smooth as the regular can opener but at the end it did a good job. I would like to see a comeback of the 108mm series.

Till next time;

jatrias

ps : Sorry for the lack of pictures :oops:

Not likely that a comeback is in the works. The 108mm Solo probably has loads of new old stock around so finding NIB 108mm Solo's is not too hard.

it won't come back but the solo is easy to pick up as said... that said those knives were unique in design and excellent in every aspect. only takes a minute to fall in love with one as soon as you take it in your hands.

Trailmaster you are right about falling in love with a 108mm ! I was in love after about 1 minute! :cheers: Size, Tool selection and those scales fill very nice in the hand :D Also ,i think it is the most likely not to get lost. It's lanyard hole is way more robust then the key ring. :tu:

I had carried / used my Mauser since my Dad gave it to me for Christmas in 1986 (pretty sure) I was 23 at the time and got quite alot of use out of it. I really liked the big blades and the light weight. At the time the only other big folder I had was a Buck 110 which was left behind on my fishing / canoeing / hiking trips in favor of the Victorinox / Mauser.  I opened quite a few cans with the saw combo tool and I can say it does get easier.

I retired the knife in 2008 when my dad got terminally ill.  I will pass it on to one of my sons when they are old enough to safely use it.
