Another quick mod – this time just a protoype mod that might be implemented on my PS4 when that arrives. This adds a prybar and cutting hook to the Leatherman Squirt P4.
I don’t drink anything that requires a bottle opener and so I find that to be a completely useless tool on any of my multitools. I’m still waiting for a PS4 to arrive which I’ll mod a bit and use as my EDC multitool, but while I wait I decided to test some mod ideas on the bottle opener on the Squirt P4 I already have.
Note that I did cut off the bottle opener “thumb” in order to try to use a cutting wheel to do this mod, which didn’t work. Besides destroying the bottle opener functionality it also created an issue with opening the tool because it now folds to ofar into the handle. When (if) I do this on the PS4 I will be keeping the bottle opener piece and not lose functionality (that I don’t use) nor create issues with the folding.
Anyways, this is a two part mod. The first part was simply adding a notch to the large flathead screwdriver on the end of the bottle opener and giving it a slight chisel grind to turn it into a prybar. It still works as a screwdriver, though you never could put much torque on a screwdriver on a tool this size so I rarely use it as such. You can’t pry anything large with it either, but it did come in handy when removing some bushings with rivets in them when disassembling a SAK earlier. Small thigns like that are perfect for this prybar.
The other part of the mod was adding a cutting hook. I lack and decent tools to sharpen it properly, so I had to use the same diamond tip for the Dremel that I used to make the hook itself. It’s still sharp enough to cut through 3mm paracord, which is rather decent as paracord is tough. I don’t imagine I will use this much, but it’s a useful thing to mod into the bottle opener when it doesn’t remove any functionality.
