Update!

Actually carried, clipped in my right pocket.  And a small bit of the pain on the corner, where the clip is, rubbed off. :ahhh

Yes, it is hard to paint Stainless and have it durable.

I got one coming through Sazabi. Can't wait to get my paws on it.  :D

I still haven't bought one and that is entirely due to my pickiness.  I want to see them do a red CX with 154cm blade, red CF insert and for that I'd be willing to pay a few dollars more  :salute:

Another update! A 4mmX2mm piece of paint(next to the clip) is no longer there

Now I'm the first to advocate the "dings/scratches add character" view of knives and MTs.

But isn't it a little early in the game for that to happen, especially since I haven't done anything major with it yet??

I'm surprised they didn't, at least, try an anodized finish, like the colored factory Micras.
They, lasted a bit longer.

Guess there's no red oxide or something? Could of used a red oxide and then applied the powder coating over that. Read the black oxide is often used as a base coat. Might of made the tool cost more that way.

FYI, This new Red Skeletool has also givn me a mystery to solve!

I stopped by the Marlton REI, they have the red skeltools in stock now!  I bumped into the store manager and gave her the heads up about the "paint problem".  SHe responded:" I already found that out from customer who frequents a multitool forum." :o

So, odds are that the is a local who's also a member here?

They say confession is good for the soul.  So if that "customer" is out there.  Give me a holler, and lets get together!! :drink:

The nearest REI to me also carries them in-store... had I known that, I wouldn't have bothered having REI ship one to that store for me to pick up in the first place.

I must say that they're  worthy, though I don't like the fact that the paint will come off so quickly. :/

Good point.  But don't toolboxes use a paint that is baked on??

While on vacay I stopped in the REI store there (my first time seeing one, we dont have them by me). I took a look at the red Skellys in the packaging and really didn't like them. Even in the package the paint just didn't look overly well applied, and in person I didn't like the color at all. I could see defects in the paint on a couple of them, def. not worth the money at all IMO.

Even as a collector though, considering the quality I saw. Some had unevenly applied paint, and I saw a small bubble in one. It was like they had the workers in the store open up some standard Skellys, spray paint them in the back room, and stick 'em back in the packaging. For the quality I saw, the price is a complete and total rip-off. At the same price as a standard? Great. $10 extra? Okay, that's reasonable considering it's a somewhat limited item. But for the price of a CX? No way, not when it looks like it was spray painted with Krylon in somebodies driveway. I would suggest picking one up in person if you want one, to make sure you get one with well-applied paint, as I could see someone getting a bad one and being really disappointed.

I'm still wonder why they didn't anodize it, like the red Juice, red Suirt,or red Micra(pictured bellow).

Anodizing is part of there manufacturing process

AFAIK the LM models with anodized handles are all aluminum. Different process for steel. Even the colored micras are aluminum
