Newbie from Malaysia here!
on:
September 09, 2010, 04:24:02 AM
Was just browsing around the net getting info on Leathermans and I hit this website. Awesome site I must say. Looking to buy a new multitool and have minimal knowledge on them (hence the web surfing
). Been a member on candlepowerforums.com for more than a year already and being a flashaholic, strangely it took me that long to decide that I want a multitool...
Been browsing through the forum a bit and as usual tonnes of info and I'm a little overloaded right now...
Just wanting to glean through your minds a little, among all the brands out there like Leatherman, SOG, SAK etc, which ones would be like the Surefire (like the most reputable flashlight brand) of the bunch?
I was looking at the Charge TTi... Just want a solid strong multitool that can take a lot of wear and tear. Looks to be about the max size I would accept.
Thanks in advance for everything!

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you are on the right track. I do not own a TTI so I cannot really comment on that model but I hear good things about the charges.

Welcome to MTO
The TTi is one of the very best tools out there in a lot of people's opinion. I have the Ti and really love it. The bit kit set up is also really useful and makes for a great pocket tool kit

G'day strinq & welcome mate
.
The Victorniox Spirit is a great MT that is not too big , I have the X model as I prefer the plain edged main blade over the serrated 'butter knife' versions.
The life time warranty Victorinox offers is a plus.
Leatherman's Wave is also a good option that is a fair bit cheaper than the Charge TTi.
US ebay is one of the cheapest places to get MT's if you can get the seller too ship too Malaysia.

EDC Source & FelineVet are worth a look if you are looking to buy a MT

Welcome to the forum Strinq.
I'm not sure the Surefire analogy quite works, there isn't one brand that stands that far ahead of the crowd IMO. You will find lots of fans of both the Leatherman Charge (any model) and the Victorinox Spirit though, I don't think many are disappointed with either of those tools.

Hi Strinq, you found the right place; finding the right multitool should not be too hard now.
While not having tried many Plier based multitools, hence being totally unqualified, I will say without a doubt
that the
Victorinox SwissTool Spirit
is the best multitool
ever!

I did just add a used full sized Swisstool and a SOG B-66N to the collection, just to see how people can be led astray. I'm sure they will make nice gifts.

Thanks again for the welcome and suggestions.
MT's are incredibly expensive over here in Malaysia but I will get one for sure.
Been reading and reading...darn, there's a whole lot of things to learn but it's fun!
