Multitools for women
on: September 21, 2007, 03:11:44 AM
I know that i am probally going to catch flak for this but my wife needs a multitool and I think that I have found it.  Leatherman makes a squirt in pink now.  I think that i am going to buy one for her.  The only thing that I think is unnecessary is the pliers.  Shouldn't the pink model come with scissors?  Most women sever things more than the put them back together :).  I bought her the "Miss army knife"  it works for her but it is junk.  I think that a pink squirt is in order.  Anyway, any suggestions on what I should buy her?

Sounds like a pink Squirt S4 with scissors would be the perfect gift.  ;)

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

A Squirt or a SAK should do nicely.

Pair the Squirt, with a pink Vic Classic, and you'll have her on our side, and soon she'll open the purse strings to all your future Multi-tool/knife purchases.
We are a crafty bunch aren't we? ;D

My wife just got a Pink S4 for her birthday, and we just got one for a wedding gift for a friend of ours. Both were appreciated. :)

A pink classic paired with a pink squirt should do the trick.  About the conversion to our side, I dont know.  I can barely afford all of my toys. :)

Stretch a little.  Women are agreeable to other than pink and dainty, especially in a useful item like a SAK.

About 35 years ago, I bought my then future wife a Victorinox Climber.  She still carries it in her handbag and uses it often.  Not then or now any kind of knife person, from the first she appreciated Vic quality and the value of having such a tool with her at all times.  Even at home, she prefers her SAK scissors to any others we have for trimming toenails.

I have several times offered to get my wife a more versatile model, but she declines, happy with the tool mix on her Climber, all of which she has used at one time or another.

The only "feminine" attitude about multi-tools she has exhibited concerns Leatherman, which she doesn't like at all.  That goes so far as when she asks to borrow my multitool and all I have at the time is a Leatherman, she will refuse it and do without rather than use the AntiVic.  She finds SAKs smooth and hand friendly, Leathermen crude and hand hostile.  Although I think other aspects of Leathermen override those considerations, her opinion is respectable and common among women, although I have spotted Micras on the keychains of some females, and one lady friend packs a PST.

IMHO, Vics are gender neutral and can be enjoyed by anyone, wives included.

For me, the best multitool for women is LM Squirt S4 of any color. It's so cute, just as small as a nail cutter but packed with the must commonly used accessories.

Could this be the best multitool for men, as well?  >:D

Look deep, guys.  How many men on an everyday basis really need more than what the lowly keychain tool provides?  What actual use do all those accumulated exotic steel tactical folders, rough-tough multitools etc. actually get that one of those little ones can't handle?  Do you really need a Sebbie or even a Delica to open a letter?

To find out, try going EDC with only a Squirt, Micra or similar for a couple of weeks, if you dare.  Find out what you really, really need (tool-bearing professionals pass on this).  Can you handle it?  ;D

I have carried the micra for a few weeks alone.  I liked it.  Very useful tool it is.  I think that I would like a squirt better than the micra.  I like the idea of having pliers.  Scissors are great and I will definately get my wife a model with scissors.

I agree that although our EDC may be one of those high end models, we seldom use some or all its features. Just as an example, I was able to use the serrated blade of my EDC (LM Wave) for 4 months now only once. I used it to cut a piece of toasted bread into halves in front of my buddies. They got curious and inquisitive and some of them requested to handle and scrutinize my tool. One got his finger pinched between the handles when he was closing the tool. No injury, only an “ouch”. At any rate, they envy my tool and some of them wanted to have the same “big boy toy”.

It’s more on my feeling of security. I feel secured with my EDC, always ready for any unforeseen emergency on the road specially that I ride a motorcycle every working day and sometimes mountain biking during weekends.

For the young lady in my life it was more an issue of what she would carry as opposed to what it would look like or how many tools it had. Out of my collection she liked the P4 the best but wanted the Storm Gray finish instead of the Blue I had. So far she's been using it a lot and is slowly coming to understand the philosophy behind an EDC loadout.

I gave my wife a PST and lasted like 2 months, she told me she needed something better, stronger so I gave her a Wave and she has been using it for the last 2 years.

Women does not exactly means that they need something pink or little.

A few days ago she tried my Swisstool Spirit and she told me she wants one like that so I think I'm going to gave her mine and I will get me a New Spirit on black oxide finish.  :multi:
Enjoy!
