Can you get a DofE in the US
on: March 04, 2011, 02:17:03 AM
Like the title says, is there a US distributor of the Duke of Edinburgh model in the US? I'm thinking about a career change, and with where I might be working, pointy knives are a no-no, but a friend who used to work there says that sheepsfoot blades are ok. So round, blunt SAK might be as well.

The other option is a 1st SAK Plus, but... yeah. It's like being 35 and still riding a kid bike.

I seem to recall I ordered mine here: http://www.swissknifeshop.co.uk/acatalog/victorinox-Duke-of-Edinburgh-Pocket-tool.html. They ship to the US.

My 1st Vic is not really an option, either - they stopped making them. You might be able to find one somewhere, but most places are out now. Easier to order the DofE from the UK.

Easiest might be to just find the SAK you like the best and grind the tip of the blade blunt. Don't go to fast and get the blade too hot and you'll be fine.

Neil's got a MFV on EDCsource.

I'd be surprised if the DofE knife was available outside of the UK TBH, it's a very specific SAK for an organisation that only operates in the UK.

If you need a DofE shipping over the pond just PM me :tu:

I'd second just reprofiling a blade on a SAK you already own as a cheaper option.  Draw the rough shape you want with a sharpie on the blade, clamp it up and take the bulk away with files/stones and then tidy up with finer stones.  That way you don't have to worry about messing up the steel's temper.

When did they stop making the MFV?  :ahhh
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

(sorry, almost off topic, but) We get the DofE award over here in NZ. A workmates daughter is completing at the moment. In saying that, no idea if they get the sak here.

Well I didn't know that, thanks for the correction.  :tu:

That is a sad predicament you are in...taking a job where knives are banned...unless it is in skrool or in the airlines (I still think it pathetic about 911, hijacked planes with knives, etc).  Shoot, in the late 1980's when I was in high skrool, I brought my Champion along...and the TEACHERS always wanted to use it.  My my my, how times have changed.

Perhaps Felinevet might acquire one on your behalf?
