Modification for a ruler
on: April 27, 2011, 07:08:26 AM
Most of the SAKs don't have ruler and specially the ones I own.

Ruler is important for multi purposes.
So I was wondering have people figured out a way to "stamp" or "carve" a ruler on their SAK(s)?

Looking at my Spirit, I see that one can put markings up to 2.5" and 6 cm on the saw, as the saw teeth follow a pattern with the inch and cm markings on the ruler. The ruler length wouldn't be big but it's better then nothing. It can certainly help if you want to stamp something(nail, pin, tape, etc.) at a precise point w/o the help of some other tool.

Well, I've tackled that problem by buying a SwissTool X

It should arrive at my door in a few days.

Previously I tried carrying a small tape measure on my keyring (up to 1 Metre), but I got sick of having that extra weight on my keyring and didn't use it often enough to warrant carrying it.  I prefer a multi-tool because then I have the ruler when I need it, but when I don't need it I still have all sorts of other useful tools.

But other than marking a length of suitable space on your existing SAKs/MTs I can't think of any other way of adding a ruler to what you already have.

I added a small stainless steel ruler (cut down to fit) to my Spirit sheath.  Its a compromise, but it works out pretty well.
