Best single mode AAA Flashlight?
on: April 27, 2011, 09:57:54 AM
I would prefer it to be lightweight and very bright.
I don't care if it goes through battery's quickly either.

@New_WorldDo you what a clicky or a twisty? Clickys are about a centimeter longer but are easier to operate one handed or in gloves.

For a twisty, MultiMats ITP is a great choice, but be careful not to get the UPGRADED version, that's the 3-mode.

For a very bright clicky you might try the Tank007 703.  'have two since February last year and they work great. You can even put a 10400 lithium battery for EXTRA bright output, but it will get hot.

Peak Eiger #8 in HAIII.

Super lightweight pocket rocket with the best build quality in this class, IMO.

+1.  Doesn't have to be in HAIII, but it will conduct heat away from the LED better if it is.  Brass and stainless are also available.

I EDC a #8 Eiger w/QTC, running on 10440 li-ion.

I agree, their website is basically garbage.

For custom work, you can phone them directly.  Otherwise their dealer is RMSK:  http://www.em-mgt.com/LED/Peak.html

I agree, and would personally prefer SS.  Since he mentioned weight, I figured HA may be best.

Actually, I would call Peak directly regardless.  RMSK is a decent place to shop, but they charge excessive shipping & handling charges.

Forget about the website.  Just put it out of your mind completely.  :P  Once you do that, you're going to have a very positive relationship with Peak and their great products.  ;)

Thanks Terry, this is good to know.  For some reason I had it in my head that they weren't accepting orders like that anymore.  I've been ready to pull the trigger on an SS Eiger and El Cap, but RMSK doesn't have what I want in stock.

Time to give Peak a call!  :mail:

I'm after a clicky.
also I do not want to use 10440's.  I sold all of those a while back.
brightest with 1 AAA.

thanks.
I already order a tank007 from DX a day ago.

I think I might get another though b/c I edc one of these...it will get used.

OK, the Eiger #8 is still probably one of the brightest you can get on AAA.  Sorry, no clicky, but they do have the most durable momentary switches I've seen.

UPDATE:
they also have this tank007 in RED.
love the black one so I'm in for a "red" one.

I'm still open to suggestions for single mode AAA clicky flashlights. (very bright, light, and small is ideal for me)

There really aren't very many clicky AAA lights, and even fewer in single mode.  You could also look at the Black Cat from DX (just search for that term).  Made by Tank007, but it uses an Osram emitter instead of a Cree XR-E.  Not quite as bright, but a slightly better beam profile (less ringy, warmer tone).

Be prepared for painful long waits with DX. Their QC is also dubious, and I have received broken products once in a while. I stopped ordering from DX.

It does take a couple weeks, but the prices are good.

Sadly, one of the MANY recent lights I bought from them was defective.
you have to bang it for it to work.
idk how to fix it.

any ideas? (I paid Over $12 for it) ...to late to contact DX..I've had it too long

Take a pair of needlenose pliers and tighten down the switch and pill.  Just sounds like something worked itself loose in transit.

I'm not sure what the pill is but I did tighten the switch.
no help.

this is helping me try to figure out what is wrong.

"Bang it to work" sounds like something is lose inside the light, mostly near the light engine. This part is typically housed in the head. The LED is attached to the chip via wires, and you have some logic there. Anything lose here can make the light behave erratically. If you post photos of the light, or the DX sku, maybe I can post some ideas.

Big fan of 1xAAA lights here. In order of preference:
* Preon ReVo SS
* Maratac AAA (black)
* iTP EOS (upgrade, black)
* Fenix L0D Q4 (black)
* Brinyte PD03A (black)
* Fenix E0 (black)
* Maglite Solitaire

Only the last is a single-mode though... :D
