Got my Wave back...sad story

Well, I got my Wave back...which is a good thing.  But I'm a little sad.  Was home this past week on my break from school and was helping my mom replace boards on their deck.  Was rooting through Dad's tools, looking for something and found my Wave that I'd given  my sister a year ago.  She liked it, said she'd like to have one like it so being a good older sister, I gave it to her.  come to find out, she tossed it in her shed and forgot about it.  Dad found it a couple of weeks ago, asked who it belonged to..she told him she didn't know so dad took it saying "if anyone comes to claim it, I've got it".  mom said I could take it back.  I'm glad to have it and it really came in handy this week, but I'm sad that my sis not only tossed it aside but lied to me every time i asked her if she still used it.  It's in good condition, a little rust here and there that I need to clean up, but after a good cleaning and oiling it should be fine.  Glad to have it back, but still a little sad.

I think I remember you giving her that Wave.

I considered getting my Dad a multitool but couldn't see it getting used. Think he'd prefer a specific tool for a specific job.

I did get him a Wenger Esquire for his keys; I know for fact that it sees plenty of use

Sadly, a fairly common event. 

 

People see what you have, say that they like it, so you give them something similar or usually better, and they do not use it because they think it is expensive, or it will be scratched, or not as tough as the cheap tool they have been using and complaining about for years.... I found a Bahco wrench I gave unused for 10 years; the cheap chinese one gets used all the time, though aparently it is and has allways been rubbish and does not grip well...

I now just tell people (lie  ) it is really cheap, do not worry about it, so that they will use it... and then of course you are told that the cheap victorinox knife they got is more expensive / impressive than the fancy, bone scaled Canoe you gave them...

Just give socks underwear and Whiskey...

  woman    my wife is like this with my wave, for a couple of years i kept my old original wave in a draw in the kitchen she used it as a button broke off the oven so needed pliers, it anoyed me because she only used the piers but still a knife to undo a plug screw      that drives me nuts, i kept telling her that the wave has screw drivers, (plenty on the old model lol) but she still kept usng a knife, in the end i put a small pair of pliers and a set of drivers in the draw, strangly she uses these now  although she did tell me once that the wave scared her as she had trouble closing a blade once    bless her

I tried to give my wife some MT's... But she keeps giving them back to me saying she have no use for them wich is fair enough, but whe I tried to take Vic Classic Green Transparent from her, oh no, no way... Even when I said I'll give her a red one "The green one matches my eyes!" was the awnser I got back!! 

Consider it a karmic path of lost MT...

Great you got it back. And I can untherstand you sis lying to you, she didn't want to hurt your feelings I reckon??

I can understand her later deciding she didn't like the Wave and setting it aside, but why couldn't she just tell you that?

It is sad to see a tool go unused. But there is a good side to it in the whole scheme of things. I mean, up until ten years ago, when the travel authorities started confiscating personal property (never thought I would be using that phrase in conversation), the only way we were really able to get pre-owned tools and knives was because most of them were abandoned.

So there is the advantage to the collecting world. It is sad to come across a tool that has been obviously neglected. Whether it has the telltale signs of living in the bottom of a tool box (outside scratched, dinged, or otherwise defaced, while the inner tools appear untouched), or it has the evidence of being abused (food, or soft drink stains, blades used for screwdrivers, etc...), the change comes when it gets into the hands of a collector. It ends its former life, and through care and passion it starts to be transformed, becoming a work of loving accomplishment, once again appreciated for appreciation sake.

As in all of life, sadness becomes joy...

Perhaps she considers it to be too big (and heavy)? I know I do after owning a Wave (my first good MT) for a week and I'm a guy. For me it's a bit too big and heavy for everyday carry. A Juice S2 might suit me better.
