My signed Japan PST arrived..
on: October 11, 2011, 08:59:12 PM
When I've seen giveaways of tools signed by Tim Leatherman around here I never thought I was
lucky enough to actually own one someday. But with the help of Bob, not only did we find a early PST with Japan stamped blade in excellent condition, it also travelled the way to Portland, Oregon before heading to Denmark. No one knew that Tim would take the time to meet the MT.O guys on their factory tour, but I heard Bob tackled the others to get first in line and hand Tim my PST to be signed.. :D

But finally it arrived safely, and I must say eventhough I have collected few special pieces this is up there with my custom PowerCut8) 8)
So a big thank you to Bob, Tim and Juli at Leatherman for making this happen..  :salute: :salute:

First the package with some extras..  8) 8)

Luckily they remembered the two "ll" in my name..  :ahhh

And next to my other PST with Japan stamped blade and the rivets actually looks alot better on the signed PST.

I'll add some fanned pics one of the next days.. :multi:

I can confirm that Bob had that tool in Tim's hands before he could get the engraver out!  Funny how a little thing like writing on a tool can turn it into a shelf queen.

We should start a new club.....Signed Leatherman tools!

that's truly a grail Allan,  :salute:

I think it would be strange for many non-MT people, who are accustomed to thinking of 'leatherman' as a generic name for a pliers-based tool, to actually see an autograph from a man whose name is actually 'Leatherman' and who invented the thing...Like having a prehistoric stone wheel, with the engraving 'best wishes, Ug' on it.

Yeah, I'd use it to point stuff out to people in meetings or anything else to draw attention to it.  Maybe fix my eyeglasses randomly.  Basically anything I could do to show it off for a while.

"Hey, what's that pointer you are using?"
"This? Oh, this is my personally signed Leatherman."   :multi:

Then, I'd put it back in it's hermetically sealed box with GPS tracking device and alarm system.

Congrats!

Just to answer some of the questions: No it's not gonna be a user and yes I haven't been able to put it down yet.. ;) And that's a great suggestion Martin.  :D :D
Besides being signed by The Man it also have the Japan stamp on the blade which afaik isn't all that common on these riveted PSTs. Also it being a part of "The Great Leatherman Tour Of The Century" with some of the finest fellows here at MT.O adds another dimension. :tu: 8)

Also super cool is the Leatherman Photographer took a picture of Tim signing your tool!  Lots of provenance (watching Auction Kings too much at night in the hotel) around that particular tool.  Now all you need is a notarized statement from Bob telling about the entire tour and how Tim barely got the signing offer out of his mouth and Bob had it in front of him.

Not to open a floodgate, but has anyone tried just sending a tool with a special request for Tim to sign? He seems to really like doing it and a real nice guy. Just send return postage etc... Food for thought. I have an aquaintence who interviewed him for part of his masters thesis and he signed a tool then too.

Hmmm....... Might be a good idea, but not sure if he would get overwhelmed  with requests. Also you would never know if he really signed them himself.

I think an autograph is kind of pointless if it isn't connected to some special encounter with the person who signed the autograph e.g. Allan's PST story is connected to the MT.O visit to Leatherman, and it was a really amazing event for MT.org that's what makes an autograph great. If I ran into Paul McCartney in the street, and asked him to sign it although he was in a hurry, and I only had a scrap of paper, and he seemed a bit annoyed, then it would not be so meaningful.

You know, I had a dream about one day owning a baseball signed by Babe Ruth. But now, I don't know... What's the point? Sigh

Just kidding. I understand your point :)

Good point.

Autographs have never interested me but it being linked to the event and the pictures etc. makes it fun :tu:
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
